Aircraft Bouncing

Postby crashcourse » Sun May 22, 2005 10:30 pm

I've been doing a tour of the U.S. in the Twin Bonanza and having a blast, but I can't seem to get the thing to land without bouncing on touchdown and then sometimes continually bouncing after I've made contact and apply brakes.  The bouncing effect on impact is only apparent from inside the cockpit; on instant replay in 3rd person view the plane appears to land nice and smooth.

I've landed at several airports (most recently in Washington, D.C.) and generally touch down somewhere between 100-200FPM, so I don't know of its the aircraft or if I'm just landing a bit too hard.   Has anyone else had this problem, or know of something that might be causing it (cfg file)?

Hello Crashcourse,

I wish I could give you a clue as to why you are having this problem with the twin. I love this plane, and I have been using it a lot lately to practice traffic patterns. Over the past week, I must have landed this plane over 50 times, if not more. I couldn't remember having the problem you are experiencing while in the cockpit view, so to double check, I just completed four landings using the CFG file that came with the twin (as an aside, I also did 5 landings using a modified CFG file I got from a yahoo.group site), and I didn't have any issues.

I didn't have any problems with any of the landings :-(   They all were smooth from all views, including the view in the VC and 2D cockpit (even in instant replay). The only one that came close to bouncing was a fast landing at 700fpm, where the plane landed hard and got some air, but then settled down, with no further bouncing. I used fair weather; wind was a non-issue--according to shift-Z, wind mag. was 00 on all the landings. Two landings were on a grass airstrip and two landings at KBOS. My FPS were a bit lower than usually (I have the frame rate set to 24, but tonight they were around 13-17 in cockpit view. I think this was due to my setting the screen resolution to 1280 X 960 up from 1024 X 768 (I heard it would not effect frame rates, but I think it did tonight, but I am not sure--so even with less FPS, I still didn't experience any excessive bouncing).

Maybe you are having a conflict with your joystick/yoke? Maybe it's micro stuttering, and not the plane bouncing? I wish I could help. Do you have this issue with other planes? In other flying situations? A particular airport?  I am sure some one here can help

Good luck,
(I guess I ramble when I am tired)
John

my guess is
1. landing to hard
2. it has to do with the scenery
3. contact points of the aircraft

same as opensky ;)
this is just my guess

Your landing to fast, or not using flare properly  ::)

Well, I've been practicing touch and gos landing as slow as possible and touching down at 75-80kts and landings are much smoother.  I was landing around 90-95kts before.  So it looks like it was all my fault  :-/.

Thanks for the input.

Yes...there you go!
You never normally land a plane such as that at 100-200! Thats reserved for fighters and heavies...
Good work Crashcourse! (at solving yourself)
