As I said before: we can learn a lot here.

I use spoilers as (air-)breaks, if I have to. Without being killed by it, so far. And spoilers only have two possibilities: they are in, or they are out - you can't raise them to a certain degree (well, I can't).

For me, the landings of JKNIGHT and 10_Gs are great.

But maybe we can invite Silver to make the landing (without using spoilers in the air)?

Succes!

You must be using the " / " key to deploy the spoilers/speedbrakes in the air.  To raise them in slight increments, open the throttle quadrant and drag the lever manually.

Well I've taken the challenge in the Lear Jet 45...and failed miserably. I tried two times the other day, the first time I couldn't bleed off enough speed and overshot the runway, the second, I came in slower and was able to get down to the beginning of the runway, but my vertical speed was too high and I crushed my landing gears...  ;D

I haven't messed with the jets much, so no way could I do it with the Lear. Maybe with an ILS I could use the autopliot to get me at least to the crest of the last hilll- whoo! Too hot in the flare every time, even with everything hanging out! I couldn't even do it with the DC3- not on one try, anyway.  Jknight, how on Earth did you get an A300 in there? What was your airspeed at touchdown? That's only a 3000 foot runway- did you actually get stopped in time?

I wasn't really paying attention to my airspeed...just flying by feel. I would say it was normal touchdown speed, thats what it felt like. I got it stopped by making a smooth, solid touchdown on the numbers with no bouncing, full reversers and spoilers, and flaps up as soon as i touched down.

Here's a tip for putting it down right where you're aiming for every time: Focus on one spot on the runway, not the whole thing. Aim for the spot you want to land on. If the spot you wish to hit appears to be moving 'up' relative to you, you will land short. If it appears to be moving 'down' relative to you, you will land long. (Courtesy of AOPA Magazine)

Also, I found the A300 to be easier than the CRJ to land, i suppose because it has greater drag to keep it slowed down, and larger flap surface.

Did anyone else notice during the flight to SEMA that you may have flown directly over 2 airfields that are inside "craters"?

I had my plane on autopilot most of the flight, and got done with dinner just in time to come check my progress and noticed the airfields.

You're modest, jknight- that's amazing to me. But maybe the A300 will sink more rapidly than I'd imagine (haven't flown it). The problem I had with the Lear, being new to it, is that it's damn slippery, and won't sink without considerable forward speed. And it likes to stall near 100kts, so trying to "mush" more doesn't help. I'd like to know if SEMA is really like that, and what kinds of aircraft actually use Rwy 19 there. I'd imagine that building atop the hill has been rebuilt a number of times!!
Thanx for the tip about targeting, but I already knew that one, having got my PPSEL a while back. If you've never heard of it, and want even more insight, check out "Stick and Rudder" by Wolfgang Langewiesche. His explanations of how it all works were way superior, IMHO, to those provided by the FAA's study material. But of course I presume to teach the master...
