Trouble is, beginner, it's a 'needle in a haystack' problem - we don't know what you're doing, so we can't tell what you might be missing out!
One thing catches my eye, though. You said, 'flying at 5,000.' Rule One about intercepting the ILS is do it from BELOW the glidepath. Try coming down to 2,000 and it might all fall into place!
If that doesn't work, put a detailed description on of what you are doing at the moment, step by step. Any of us would be able to help you then!
