Hey pooty. If you like flying Hawaii, get some of the great freeware scenery add ons from Bill Melichar. I have the add on for PHNL and it is great. Actually I have all by Bill and it really makes the short hops around the Hawaiian islands all the more real!

in RL you should be doing about 150knots cause the big boys can only slow down to between 160~180 knots before they become rocks.

like a 172 pilot told me his max speed is ~150 knots so he lands at the big airports at full speed!! cause the boeing 777 thats 1 mile behind him is just above stalling and still 30 knots faster than he his.

KDSM ~ Its ok to land at that speed in a 172 or Mooney?
Sounds like a good idea but do you remember what procedures the 172 pilot use ie.  "no flaps" etc?

Hi Fly2e,

thanks for the advice. How is that stuff on FPS? I do okay with a Radeon Pro 128Mb and want to keep it that way.  ;)

It is fine on FPS. The great thing about Bills add ons is they are really frame rate friendly! I was using a GForce 3 year old card a few months back and did not even take a hit.

Graycat8524....sorry that it took me until Monday to get back with you.  I was (for some reason) unable to log on to the forum from my home computer?  At any rate thank you so very much for the information. If I have any problems with the installation I will let you know.  I'm sure that a bunch of people on the forum will be able to use this great info.....reguards!  :D

I did find a neat little trick about fs2004.  You can manipulate windows  while flying by opening extra small picture in picture windows!
Heres how:  If I want a rear view of things gaining on my "tail feathers" I simply open that view while in the landing pattern.  Here is how I do it:  You can open up sub views while using any main view that you desire.
A.  Press the [ key which will open up a smaller window which will be highlighted with a white outline.  B. While the view is highlighted you can zoom in/out or shift it 360 degrees etc.  C. You can open up as many as your computer will allow!  For instance, you can use a top down view or spot plane view to check that your landing gear is truly "down and locked" or watch your pitch on takeoff or landing.  D. To close any windows you have opened:  click on the desired window - it will highlight with a white outline and simply hit the ] key!  Works great!  Note: If your in a hurry, windows will close the last window opened first and continue in that order.   8)

Another trick that I've learned is really cool as well.

Start off landed at your favorite airport in any type of aircraft.  Engines On/Off or Power On/Off it doesn't matter.  Do like you suggested and press the [ key (or from the main FS 2004 menu select Views and New View).  Right click on this new window and set it for Full Screen.  This will show a outside view of your aircraft.  Next hold down the Ctrl key and press the letter W.  This will "cycle" the views of different aircraft in your area.  Or you can Ctrl + Shift + W to "reverse cycle" your views.  This is especially fun when you have real-world type aircraft with Ultimate Traffic.  You can watch the planes taxi, takeoff, and land.  You can get a "bird's eye view" of the aircraft as they touchdown, taxi, and stop (just don't get too close to the jet intake -- those Pratt & Whitneys will do a number on you).

Would you know where you might get approach charts or are they something that only real world pilots have access to?

Corbin,

If you have a General Aviation airport anywhere near you they will have little booklets of approach plates and sectional maps and all that type stuff.  Exact procedures ARE specified for stuff like go arounds....and lots of other stuff.

Look for "Terminal Procedures" plates.  They come in booklets that cover specific regions...... I think there are 32 all told to cover the USA.

The booklets are republished all the time to keep them current to any changes happening at airports.  So the old ones are usless fro real world pilots.  If you know any GA pilots...... you might be able to get outdated ones (no longer legal) for free.  Even if you buy them........ they are pretty cheap.

Try "Wings Pilot Shop" in a Google search online.  They are a real world pilot shop that has a website.  They are based at my home base airport here in NH (KASH).

Hope this helps.

best,
