A noobs trip across the pond

Postby jeeper767 » Fri Apr 30, 2004 4:38 pm

I'm new to FS2004, but not new to flight sims. I decided in order to really place my abilities, I had to try a challenging flight.

So as of last night, I'm making Earhart's trip across the Atlantic Ocean. And I decided to post my progress as I go.

Currently, I'm about 4 hours off of the Newfoundland coast. It's 9:45 PM, stormy, and very, very dark. I've already had a radio malfunction (even though I'm not using it),  and I'm really hoping that's all I have to worry about.

Boredom has already set in, and I still have bout 11 hours to go. My goal is Ireland, but just hitting anywhere in Britain would make me VERY happy.

That's all for this log entry. I hope you guys enjoy my log.
I love to fly!!!

Sounds great! You can try to land in Iceland if you are desperate for land but you'll fly over Ireland before you reach Britian. Well good luck and don't give up  ;D

Don't forget to stretch! You don't want any blood clots in your legs....!  :o
Trust me, I had lunch with Erik Lindbergh Jr and his Mom and they said , "Don't forget to eat your veggies and stretch!"

Really I did!

PS: I produced the entire event at "The Cradle of Aviation's 100 Anniversary of Flight! here in NY"
2 full glasses of Red with The Grandson of Eric Lindbergh at the "Head Table" 2 months after he replicated his Grandfather's flight!!

I heard one very interesting story.......don't remember the content,......But I do remember the Company!  ;)

Well, it's now 11:00PM, and it's still very dark, and very boring. But I can't help but think that I have it easy. I brought along some music, and Amelia didn't have that.

I'm still dealing with heavy storms, I guess that's to be expected in the North Atlantic. Unfortunately though, my autopilot has failed, so trying to stay on course in bad weather is much harder.

Judging by my calculations, which probably are wrong, I have about 10  hours before I spot some land. I'm really just looking forward to daylight, because trying to fly level when the clouds are blocking the stars is next to impossible.

Thanks for your support guys!

Do you fly alone?Oh,thats really boring!
You should take your friend or better girlfriend with you...at least she could make sandwiches for you...

Seriously,I did this flight when started to fly in fs9...
To tell the truth,I skipped all the middle of route, flying only for half an hour above ocean from one side and half an hour before reaching coastline...

I don't think your autopilot failed, When I did this flight I got the same thing, but I switched it to manual and raised some altitude and turned it back on and it was just fine, I think its the jet sream, or someting, that is giving you alot of turbulance, I highly doubt that its your autopilot.

Hmm, I'll have to try that. What altitude did you cruise at?

I did the Lindberg a while back, and my knees still aren't right. Just make sure you are in a comfy chair that supports your back properly and that you can take regular pit-stops in "the office". I tried to do the Lindberg in the official style but had excessive coffee and had to nip off to "the office" somewhere over the Atlantic, I wonder if I pee'd the RMS Titanic?

The Vega will cruise at 40000-55000 feet?

I never would have guessed!!

Your using the Vega? Sorry I didn't know, but I was using the Lear.

If your as good as Ozzy, I think you can still push that baby to 40,000 feet. I will check if it can.

Stormtrooper, if you can tell me what the best cruising altitude for the Vega, I'd be very thankful.

Right now I'm at 11,000 feet and the stupid autopilot still won't work. It's making for a very tedious, and dare I say, realistic, flight.

Well, I just tried it, best I can do is 14,000 feet, but I think your best chances are below all that turbulance and stuff. So I say that you should fly 4,000 to 6,000 feet ASL.

P.S. I was having trouble at around 10,000 to 30,000 feet too!
