Does FSX run smoothly for ANYONE?!

Postby Private Caboose » Wed Aug 08, 2007 12:56 pm

yeah, I got FSX Deluxe Edition for Christmas last year. When I installed just the demo version on my computer, the computer practically had a seizure even on the lowest possible graphics. I then tried it on my brother's lap top. His computer was far more advanced than mine. Still, on minimal graphics it was laggy at best. I then moved up to my dad's computer which was newer than mine or my brothers. It ran but it was still on the slow side with minimal graphics. In a last ditch effort to make this game work I tried it on my mom's computer which was supposedly designed for high intensity graphics. It ran smoothly but only on the lowest possible graphics. Is there any computer availble to the public today that can run this game with reasonable graphics and without lag? I'd be surprised if it were possible.

It does for me however I dont cut corners on hardware either http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 6179268/#1

Read post #8 here about the perfomance I get with Bush flying: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1186179279

and you can read further down about video cards.

FSX will run smooth for many people. The biggest problem is they want it to run with the same amount of visuals as FS9 on hardware FSX was not meant to be run on like that.

Just as FS9 had the same exact issues when it first came out, FSX was desinged for hardware a year away. That does not mean you can not use or enjoy it, it means you have to accept the limits of the hardware being used or that you can afford, and set the program up correctly so it does not overtax your system. If that means becuase you did not buy better hardware you dont get a lot of autogen, jetways, city buildings, and traffic, then so be it.

It runs very smooth for me, but, like eveyone else there are places with very heavy traffic and renderings such as NYC, LA, etc where I even see a stutter or two and I cant use the bloom unless I am flying bush. There you have it.

I also know how to tweak hardware and FSX too. And, you must also have the SP1 update installed for FSX. There is more to it than buying the best and simply booting the program.

When I recommend hardware such as motherboards, memory and PSU's, my recommendations are based on being able to upgrade to the better processors, memory products and video cards due out by the end of the year.

People around here may think my recomendations are not reasonable, well, I have only one thing to say to that... buy old stuff, get old performance, buy the right stuff and not have to pay TWICE in one year to have the ability to upgrade... and you get the performance too

well, the problem is that theres no way its ever gonna rn on my current lap top because its hardware bound. Thats why when I get a new computer I'm gonna make sure that its not a laptop so that I can upgrade the hardware inside. I kinda wish I hadn't gotten rid of my copy of FS9. That game ran perfectly on my computer. But the day I got FSX, I uninstalled FS9 and sold the disk. Not the brightest thing I've ever done.

No, probably not

FS9 will continue to be the sim of choice until next year when DX10, FSX and hardware all catches up to the times

You can still get a copy of FS2004.

Laptops are not designed to be game systems, never were. Even those units that may have the more advanced features are not game rigs. There are limits to them right now that can not be overcome however hardware is advancing too and by the end of next year a laptop will be better suited for that, but, you wont get the same out of a laptop as you will a full tower no matter what year it is.

They do work and many people use them for games but if you are after quality and frames, you need a dedicated game rig or you have to accept the best the laptop will give you.

I could probably find a cracked version of FS2004 on the internet. I've always been a little cheap.

A brand new copy of FS2004 is about $20 these days if you are in the USA.

If you're in the USA, go to Best Buy. That's where I got my mine. As JBaymore pointed out, it's only $20.00.

Ironically, that's where I saw it today for the exact same price... looks like the going rate.

P.S. Ben, if you sent your scratched disk back to MS they would have sent you a replacement.  ;)

Yes, I do believe if you get through to the right number they will replace disks but I am not sure if they will do that on old titles. I know they will for FSX and current titles.

I think they have a program set up for that, I have never used it but I have heard of it.
