Vista Experience Rating Scores

FSX recommends a 5.0 rating overall to run - this means the lowest common denominator cannot be less than 5.0. Even if everything is a 5.9 and one item is 5.0, the overall rating can't exceed 5.0. I would be interested to know what others are getting as a rating especially for their Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 at 2.13 ghz w/2 mb cache?

I got a 5.7 on my desktop, and a 5.2 on my laptop. Your biggest problem is your processor. Just because you have a Core 2 doesn't mean that you can do anything you want. With an E6700 or X6800 maybe but not with a E6400. Crank that puppy to 3.4Ghz or better and notice the difference. You also lack 4MB of L2 cache (as the E6600, E6700, X6800, and E6x20 processors have) which helps a lot in the processor overall score.

So what would you recommend? getting an E6700 Duo at 2.93 mghz with 4 mb cache or a qx6800 at 2.66 mghz with 8 mb cache to replace the current E6400 ?

Well you could just crank that E6400 up, and that would do just fine. If you are looking to swap processors, a E6700 will do just fine.

I would recomend ignoring the Vista Experience Rating. It serves no useful purpose other than make you think you need to upgrade something.

Overclock the E6400. I reckon you could get from 2.13ghz to 3ghz on stock cooling! That's a 40% increase in clockspeed! Not only will that increase your processing speed, but it will also let you FEED your videocard more data so you will also get better graphics too.

yeah, me too. When I look at my ASUS BIOS settings the clock speeds and voltages are all in grey. The Nvidia Control Panel has all sorts of changes that can be made but I don't  want to break something. A step by step would be great!!

With DDR 1066 Ram, you can crank an E6600 up to 4.5Ghz easily.

I got mine running at 3Ghz without problems.

Still not sure the CPU is not bad but went ahead and entered the ASUS Setup. There is a section where one can allow Overclocking and so I clicked on this option. Then you can select some installed options like Allow 5% up to 20% overclocking. So we selected the 20% overclocking option and then closed and did a F10 save and exit. The screen went black and thats it. No reboot possible. Can't access Setup even using the system CD that came with the motherboard. Hmmm. Does that sound like the CPU failed or the BIOS. Sometime back when we flashed the BIOS we got a similar situation and had to get a new BIOS chip sent in. Apparently ASUS has a problem with BIOS chips failing when they get flashed and provide them free only charging for shipping. Any ideas?

I would agree. But when it happened and I talked to their techs they actually recommended against flashing because in about 10% of the time the BIOS gets damaged - at least on this MB.
