Errr. It is about same performance as a 8800GTS. I was LOLing at the frame rate increase when going from 1920 to 2560 if that's possible.  ::)

Better image quality and on par with a 8800GTS.

Same story over and over.

But its also bigger, and consumes more power. And if its any reoccuring theme with ATi it will run hot too, with a horrable stock cooler.

And not to mention that ATI has horrable OpenGL dirvers. But currently their Vista drivers are better.

The circle continues to carve.

Yes it is

That card is not the 65nm top shelf product and it is designed to compete with the 8800GTS. Within a few weeks the price of the card will be reduced and the cost of 2 of those cards on the right drivers will be about the same as a top shelf GTX and the set will blow an ultra away. Properly clocked I can say that a single card will push an 800 dollar ultra. For the price that is a very important point these review sites have somehow overlooked.

I think there was quite a bit 'missed' and 'overlooked'

And it also doesnt run fsX badly (for the power of the card).

Also for the record temperature doesn't mean much. I pushed my X850XTPE to 125degrees celcius when I oc'd it as I don't really care if it dies. Two years old and STILL hasn't died. Damn....

OK, finally someone figured it out...

http://www.computerbase.de/news/treiber ... vergleich/

Its in German but it tells the story. There is a driver bug, plain and simple. Depending on which version of driver was used the results will be skewed, and by quite a bit.

I am sure ATI is on it and will have it fixed quickly.

As you can see those show a far cry from what the review sites are posting and demonstrates the driver revision compared to the results. It makes sense some of them would post the horrible nonsense they did with mixed drivers floating around.

ROFL. Thanks for that.

It completely dominated the 8800 there; exactly what I expect it to do.

The performance is okay for a card that gets released to the public six months later.

I wouldn't see any reason for trading my 8800GTS for a 2900.

If you already own a 8800GTS card I agree there would be no good economic reason to switch. Even as driver changes will most likely push the 2900 further past over the next month, if you already have a GTS it makes more sense to wait till the next level of product hits the street.

That is also why I suggest waiting till mid June or early July for anyone who may be in the market for an upgrade. Around that time good information and other product will be around to evaluate and compare without the hoopla.

AMD/ATi plan to start their more agressive competition plans in Q3
