BTW I ran HL2 for a couple of hours at the higher voltage settings and never experiences a heat problem. Am not sure how CPU intense the game actually it though.

The new Logitech drivers screwed up my CPU monitor on my keyboard.

Sorry about the hold up Richard.

After going over the numbers I have here I have some questions that need to be answered before we can start jacking things up. The 590 chipset control incorporates divider scales which differs from what I am use to working with and are completely different than your other board. I need to see some settings and their influence on HT and memory so I confirm the scales before I feel comfortable in calculating a full clock.

At a certain point the 590 chipset responds better to high memory frequency than low latency. Because of that and the fact that we want to try and get the CPU as high as possible, we are going to work this out with the memory set to 2T and high timing (SPD) and then tweak it as we go.

Instead of just posting my interpretation of a clock, I would prefer to take a more conservative approach here and check a few things out. Because of that, this will take a bit longer than anticipated but the end result may be significantly better.

What I would like you to do is set the system up by the numbers I present below. Assuming the system boots into Windows without issue, if you would please post the CPUz CPU and MEMORY tabs it would help me to understand the direction I am going with the chipset is correct. I do not need any other tab, just those 2.

Once they are posted, I may ask to repeat the process with another set of values to compare.

While we are doing this, it may be best to not run any load tests. I provided a set of numbers you can return the system to after the following items are changed and recorded so you may return the system to default for normal use while I work through a few unknowns.


I know going back and forth like this is a pain, and setting the BIOS up over and over but the end result may present a much better outcome.

About the keyboard and the CPU monitor...

If by chance you shut down the performance counters using the Resorce Kit program exctrlst.exe (from the list of items I have posted to enhance performance) that will turn off the CPU monitor on the keyboard. If that is so and you would like to enable that function again.. launch exctrlst.exe, ( C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\exctrlst.exe) scroll down and enable..

by highlighting them and placing a check in "Performance Counters Enabled"

After a reboot you will have your blinky lights back  

If you did not shut down the performance counters, then I guess it was the drivers    ;)

Ok, the numbers look correct now and fall in line with a 1:1 ratio. As you can see I used a 10x multiplier to ensure a base 10 divider and the FSB/MEM are now 1:1. Hypertransprt is also calculated correct @ 3x320=960

That goes against what I saw in the first CPUz you posted for memory speed so now we need to do a few more checks.

As for the settings, according to the manual they should be here:




I would really like to find those two if they are in that BIOS because they can make the job of getting a clock stable rough, especially when we get to the BIOS PCIe overclock not to mention the video card clock.

I am running another set of numbers and will post them in a few minutes.. assuming the forum does not go down again

I am pretty sure the Bios in the manual was for the previous Bios. The update seemed to have deleted both settings.

The next step is to raise the CPU Frequency until it either does not boot or is not stable booting into Windows. I dont want to go nutz here because I know without a CPU cooler you wll be limted, but lets see where than limit sits.


First.. for now, drop the Memory Clock Frequency to [DDR2 400]
