Saitek X45 Spring revisited

Postby luke » Thu Feb 15, 2007 7:44 am

Was mentioned before, about cutting a bit of the spring to ease tension, but I found that by tying 2-3 of it's coils together (each side) with thin wire you can trim the tension to suit you.

about 2 months ago my dad decided to do that, but i didn't really like it much because even though it centered, my plane was also slightly tipping to the right because it never sentered fully.

im just waiting to get a new joystick, like an X-52 pro(or sabotage my current one to get a new one, muah hahaha!!!).

I have no problems with shortened spring.

I just bought a new stick for my second PC, the spring was quite stiff, and I simply dismantled it, removed the spring completely, and it works just as good as my MS Sidewinder FFB without the FFB, ie, completely floppy and no resistance other than the very slight spring effect provided by the boot rubber. Very nice indeed  :D

Never felt it was too stiff... maybe I'm just used to it.  :-?

That's 99% of it I'm sure, I've been flying with a feather light touch on my stick for years, and going to a heavy springed, self centering stick was just intolerable for me, I couldn't rip it out quick enough despite voiding the warranty on the stick immediately.

Most of my flight simming is online combat simming. Force Feedback and springs provide feedback to the brain that conflicts with what I percieve as realistic, having had some aerobatic experience myself. I find that my imagination re-creates the forces much more accurately than FFB or other physical mechanisms, and I am much better off without those false inputs which are disconcerting, so a feather light stick is just what I need and truly enjoy.

I've become so adept at these "mind forces" that I find my hand is actually pulling muscle against muscle in high G pullups for example, weird I guess, but whatever works right ?   ;)
