It might be able to carry an HD signal through the DVI port, but it would be shown in SD. Even at that, the picture quality may be improved over a regular SD signal. I guess you could try an HD- DVD and see how it looks.
I don't think there's any such thing as an HD satellite. It's all down to the receiver or tuner as to what signal signal is sent to the monitor. OTA HD signals can be picked up from a good TV antenna with an HD tuner. My television is an old CRT/SD so the signal to the monitor would still be SD. I can pick up FTA HD signals through my dual C/Ku-band stallite, but they aren't watchable as my receiver has no HD tuner, only digital/analog.
All I see on an HD channel is a bunch of random colored pixels, kind of like watching on of those small dishes during a heavy storm. ;D
