Monitor problem

I've been getting this strange pattern across the screen of the monitor. It's most visible on plain, dark backgrounds and it just looks like something is interfering with it.

Something like this (a cut out section, rather than me drawing the entire screen!):



I didn't have anything like this on the monitor I had before, however when I tried to replace it with a different monitor (different to the one I'm using now), the problem was evident there, too. This particular monitor was my dad's, and he had no such problem with it.

Is what's causing this down to the monitor, the monitor settings, or something else?

It's a CRT monitor, if that makes any difference...

It does, i know what you mean, mostly happens to old CRT's.


Try to hold an incredibly strong magnet to the glass



Try to demagnetise it, mostly helps, are the lines permanently there also if it's off?

I've already tried the degauss, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

And no, it doesn't appear to be there when it's off (although I can't see why it would be?).

If you have tried two monitors and your getting the same problem then take your monitor down to your dad's comp. If you don't get the lines is your GPU.

I had a friend with a similar problem. Replaced the monitor, and it didn't do a damn thing. Replaced the GPU, problem solved.

But you see, the strange thing is, I also had the same problem on a different monitor, on a different card.

First I tried to replace my old one with a different monitor, due to brightness problems, and the problem occured there (this was on my old FX 5600XT).

So I went back to my old monitor.

Then a couple of days ago, my dad got a new monitor, so I had his old one, and replaced the one I tried to before. By now I have a 6800GT. Same problem.

Surely it can't be down to the GPU if it's happening with two seperate cards? Remember also, that the original monitor I was trying to replace didn't have this problem. But then, surely it isn't the monitor, seeing as it's happened with two of them?!

Perhaps there's something causing magnetic interference outside? I tried moving my speakers around, but that did nothing.

Try this. Uninstall your current nVidia driver, defragment with O&O, install new drivers, and run O&O again. You may be having a driver problem.
