You could go from the E66 to the E63 and save yourself about $150USD, then spend that on a bigger hard drive. Other than that, nothing else can be "cut."

To adress your other question, the system (depending on your case, and HDD and OS choice) will run you about $1300USD.

That's more like it! With that budget I'd go for something like this.
I'd definately choose the X19590 XT over the 7900 GS though... it just is a much better card for a little more money.

I bet you couldn't find that GPU eh?  ;D
What I really ment was the X1900 XT (is there such a thing as X1950 XT?)
If the X1950 XTX was ment, then it wasn't comparable to the 7900 GS. It's much better than the 7900 GS, but also much more expensive! It's a very good card for the money though, it just depends on how much you want to spend on your GPU.

The cheapest X1950 XTX that I can find costs 399,- Euro. That would be about 266 Pounds.

How about a 7900 GTX instead of 7900 GS? That will cost you about 200 Pounds. Or you could go for the X1900 XTX. These cards give you about the same performance for about the same price.

www.tomshardware.com :
The Geforce 7900 GTX is Nvidia's answer to the X1900 XTX. Both of these heavyweights have their strengths and show superiority in different games and benchmarks, but neither will disappoint. The 7900 GTX will have the advantage in texturing speed, and the X1900 XTX will have the advantage in shader speed.

...remember, if you decide to go for a HUGE hard drive, consider how long it's going to take you to de-frag it when necessary.... :o...!

My plenty-big-enough, 80 GbB hard drive seems to take days to de-frag....
...and sometimes, life is not long enough... :'(...!

Paul....;)...!

Don't forget that some of the latest Graphics cards are still available for Motherboards fitted with AGP slots, albeit more expensive that their PCIe equivalents...

Paul, My 400gb raid array defrags in a minute or two as long as I do it once a week. The 7900GS has just been released and is the best AGP card I know of.

Lilley, consider that you could just buy 1gb of ram for your existing PC, a 7900gs AGP and overclock your cpu. You wouldn't need a new PC just yet. So you do have that option if buying a full new system is gonna hurt your pocket too much.

Consider a WD raptor HDD for speed (or a RAID-0 array if you are adventurous). In any event, the larger the HDD, the faster they are, that's why the current best buys are 320gb hdd's.

Take special care when choosing your mainboard. There are always traps, an Asus P5B has some glaring faults for example.

Postby lilley91 » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:00 am

alright

if i were to get 1gb RAM to add to my current and then get a new vid card, that would make it possible to get e better one hats more expensive...
and i overclock

if i did all of that would i then get the same kind of performance off of it as i would from the equipment listed

ok stupid question, obvioulsy not going to be as good..
but would i then have a machine that would be able to run FSX at close to  (or even better) or full quality?

thats what im looking for here, it doesnt have to a completely top of te line computer but as long as it can run FSX to its full.

thanks for this guys
loads of help!!!

Buy it, and let us know when it gets there, so we can beat you round the head with it.

Again, Dell has employes and robots building computers, it costs money to buy the parts to build, and pay the employes to put it together. By doing it yourself you only pay for parts, get exactly what you want, and only waste an hour of your saturday setting it up.

Besides the fact that you can look at it every time you fly, and go "yea thats right, I created you!"

I might explain somewhat Lilley.

For many years the forums here were inudated with issues regarding Dells and their associated problems.

There are (or at least always have been) problems associated with Dell PC's that are almost insurmoutable in order to provide a good gaming platform.

If you spec that Dell you chose up to the standard you would build to, it will cost around twice as much as you could build it for.

ok

il forget the dell then... lol

umm ive been talking to a few of my friends (yes i have friends outside of the V!! its amazing!!) who know far too much about computers and so ve asked if they can put a list together of what would be best and as soon as i get that list i will come back here and tell you what they have told me.
If i could please ask you if you could tell me if there is anything i should change, even just slightly, that would be fantastic.

and i rekon half of what youve said to me regarding the parts will be what they say.

thanks
