That's more like it! With that budget I'd go for something like this.
I'd definately choose the X19590 XT over the 7900 GS though... it just is a much better card for a little more money.
The Geforce 7900 GTX is Nvidia's answer to the X1900 XTX. Both of these heavyweights have their strengths and show superiority in different games and benchmarks, but neither will disappoint. The 7900 GTX will have the advantage in texturing speed, and the X1900 XTX will have the advantage in shader speed.
and i take it that this is going to be cheaper than just getting a complete machine?
thanks guys

I bet you couldn't find that GPU eh? ;D
What I really ment was the X1900 XT (is there such a thing as X1950 XT?)
If the X1950 XTX was ment, then it wasn't comparable to the 7900 GS. It's much better than the 7900 GS, but also much more expensive! It's a very good card for the money though, it just depends on how much you want to spend on your GPU.
The cheapest X1950 XTX that I can find costs 399,- Euro. That would be about 266 Pounds.
How about a 7900 GTX instead of 7900 GS? That will cost you about 200 Pounds. Or you could go for the X1900 XTX. These cards give you about the same performance for about the same price.

...remember, if you decide to go for a HUGE hard drive, consider how long it's going to take you to de-frag it when necessary.......!
My plenty-big-enough, 80 GbB hard drive seems to take days to de-frag....
...and sometimes, life is not long enough......!
Paul.......!
Don't forget that some of the latest Graphics cards are still available for Motherboards fitted with AGP slots, albeit more expensive that their PCIe equivalents...
