i know it's not right...but....

would you complain? ;)

if it's true that his core is a toledo and not a San Diego, then someone should look into enabling the second core.

Absolutely I would complain... I would take a single 3700+ San Diego core over a disabled X2 Toledo any day.

The pins were probably whacked off to disable it... good luck restoring that without an electronic surgery setup and the talent to operate on the pins without burning the internals.

psst... it was a joke... i had figured there was no connection to the second core.

It's not advertised as a San Diego is it? It's advertised as a 3700+ I believe.

Also, CPUZ did mis-inform at least one new 3700+ owner when it stated the CPU was a San Diego, when it clearly was not, because the CPU code showed otherwise. I believed CPUZ used a namestring to state the San Diego/Toledo or whatever name, but is it possible that it ID's it by the L2 cache being 1mb plus other parameters, or is it truly reading a namestring, because if it is, then AMD are using a San Diego namestring on a E6 stepping 3700+. Even if they are using the San Diego namestring, it's really going to be hard to cite misrepresentation when AMD can call their CPU's anything they want, as long as they don't misrepresent the specification, but, hey, I'm no lawyer either lol.

Wierd.

It is not possible to incorporate the cache of a dual core and disable one, therefore the San Diego E6 is the Toledo.

I don't understand this NickN, I know I'm a little thick sometimes, but this has me

Opterons rock for the same price of the equivlent athlon chip you get something from the middle of the wafer which makes it loads better for overclocking :D

CABE is a great stepping code, most people get good results with these.  go for it :)

What the hell are you guys talking about? What's with all these cities about which you speak? I want to put a 3700+ into my machine. Which one should I get? And don't tell me not to waste my money upgrading this little machine. It does what I want; I just want it to do it faster. I don't need SLi or whatever. I want to play FS fast and groove on DVDs with no stutters. Is that so wrong?!

I'm going shooting...
emachines T6212; AMD Athlon64 3800+ (2.40 GHz; Venice core); Allied AL-B500E 500W power supply; 2048Mb PC3200 DDR400; Westinghouse LCM-22w2 wide-screen LCD monitor; eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GS KO X16 PCIe video card; Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight controller;<

This stepping if you have socket 939:  San Diego Rev. SH-E4

If you have a socket 754 board, I would disagree heartedly with Brett on this one, the socket 754 3700+ has a stock speed of 2.4ghz and 1 mb of L2 cache, technically a higher spec than a San Diego.

You don't have to disagree with me.. I was hoping it would be pointed out if I was in error. I didn't think there was a 1mb L2

no, the cities are just codenames for the processors

some for the AMD:
Venice = 3200
San Diego = 3700
Clawhammer = 4000

some for the intel:
Conroe = new P4
Prescott = old P4

(just some names, no all ;))

no they're not all cities, just most are ;)

They are only around $230 here and cpu's are generally more expensive in Australia :P
