Oh yeah. The biggest justifiable pitch thrown at us in regards to Dual Cores is the improved multi-tasking ability they have. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but I'm told we need it

I was pretty sure dual-core apps would just talk dual-core.. that makes sense.. Knowning that it's there and calling upon it.. BUT.. I thought the 64bit thing was a different issue. If the O/S itseslf doesn't throw chunks of data around in 64bit pieces... can a 64bit app do it on its own?..  I know you need a whole different directory for 32bit apps even if you DO have WindowsXP64..

..The only real reason i wanted Dual core was for FSX..

Am i right in buying dual core now for that, or does that come into the same argument.

Windows XP64 or Vista is not going to be responsible for 64 bit computing and it is just another application.

Sorry... Windows x64 and Vista are NOT just another application. The x64 and Vista code deliver more data per clock cycle which is why base memory requirements are higher for x64. Memory limits jump from 4GB to 128GB.

Also, x64 will recognize 2 dual core processors as a quad system. x32 Windows will not.

That makes sense.. Another core (or CPU) is just more hardware.. If an app knows how to use it.. groovy..


But the flow of data (gaming or otherwise) is O/S dependent, when it comes to 32/64 bit  .. I think  ..lol

I'm sorry, I didn't communicate that very well.

I meant just another 64 bit app.

What we were trying to determine was whether, as you say, Windows will actually unlock the 64 bit system or whether the apps themselves will just run 64bit code on the cpu independent of OS.

Or is this another comment typical of Microsoft implying that they are responsible for an exciting new technology when they are just riding on it's back like everyone else?

And to add more to this 6 page thread..

And whilst on that Page (the link above) it says "Important Note: The TruePower 2.0 Fan Only connectors are designed to power standard fans only. Attaching thermally-controlled fans to these connectors will likely result in unpredictable and undesired behavior. Thermally-controlled fans should only be connected to the standard 4-pin Peripheral Power Connectors. Please do not connect more than three fans to the Fan Only connectors. "


Will this be any kind of problem at all?

I thought that fans connect into the motherboard..?.. Or does it mean something different.

Some fans connect to the motherboard.  Most of these are CPU and northbridge fans.  Case fans usually connect to PSU connectors, fan only or normal.  I have an Antec smartpower and this does not use fan-only connectors.  

I use a Tri-speed Antec 120mm case fan in my case, this has 3 speeds and these are selected by a switch.  This connects to a standard 4 pin connector.  Perhaps one of these may be more suitable?  

I don't see any benefit of fan-only connectors.  Maybe someone could enlighten me?
