OY!!! A 42 CFM 120mm thats not worth the money. Ive got a 77CFM Blue one from Aspire, and I know they have it in green. Have a look around Newegg.

Cheers

If you are averaging 24-25C I would not worry about it.

agreed... (motherboard or tower temp) nothing to worry about up through 35c. Above 35c-40c for extended periods is not healthy only because the internal temp of the tower will effect CPU, HDD and PSU temps.

My tower max is 31c while under heavy load for extended periods. I use 1 fan for the tower.

My CPU max is 50c (A64 3800+ San Diego core overclocked to FX57 performance) and idles between 28c-30c using a solid copper Thermaltake VENUS 12.

My AIW x800 ATI card fan is controlled by ATI TOOL v .024 which allows full control of the GPU fan. I have it set to run 45% at idle with 10-15% incremental increases every 5c to run at 100% above 65c.

I use SPEEDFAN and AMD COOL&QUIET to control my tower, CPU and PSU fans. Unless the system is being used for 3D or other heavy loads, it is virtually silent,.. so quiet there are times I can barely tell it is on.

At idle, my tower fan runs @ 925rpm (2000 under load) and the CPU fan runs @ 1100rpm. Since the HS-fan is of a deep pitch design, like a boat prop, it pushes allot of air at very low RPM. I set SPEEDfan to max the CPU fan @ 2600rpm however it can go as high as 6000rpm. At that speed it sound like a vacuum cleaner and I have never needed any more than 2600rpm.

well i got the cool'n'quiet as well, and i suppose it's working...

I just installed my last fan, the intake in front of the hard drives, which puts me at 3, 1 powerful intake, and 2 medium outakes, making air flow pretty good. cause it used tobe 2 outakes and nothing in. (well i first started out with 1 outake)

anyway, performance had increased. my avg temp is 24

To enable Cool&Quiet you must do the following:

1. Install the C&Q driver for the A64 processor.
2. Turn on C&Q in the BIOS
3. Enable ACPI 2.0 Support in the BIOS (set it to:YES)
4. From the Windows 2000/XP operating system, open the Control Panel, Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel then select the Screen Saver tab. Click the Power... button. From the Power schemes combo list box, select "Minimal Power Management" Click OK to implement settings.

Under idle and low power operation such as web surfing, you should see the CPU temp start to drop. It could drop as much as 10c until a load is applied.

BTW:
Maxing out @ 32c under constant heavy loads was not a problem for your tower temp assuming the tower was optimized for airflow by looming the cables and wires away from and down close to the motherboard so air is free to flow without obstruction.

ok... so where do i find the CNQ driver? i've been searching my motherboard CD, AMD.com, and a general google search. i also looked at my BIOS, and my 2 ACPI options ooks like this:

ACPI Suspend Type: S1/POS (power-on susp)
-------------------: S3/STR (Susp to RAM)

now both my motherboard and my processor support CNQ. but.... i'd kinda like to use it.
any sense out of that?

It is not called "Cool&Quite" It is the processor driver for the A64 processor directly from AMD

Choose the OS you are using.. direct download from here:

WindowsXP (32bit Operating system):
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... amdcpu.exe

WindowsXP x64 (64bit operating system):
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... dcpu64.exe

Once installed, follow the rest of the instructions above
