I'll get the drives, just this order get stuffed up took the glamour away for a while.
For an area with a sparse population (50,000 in a pretty large region), we have so many "local" PC shops it's mind boggling. I've tried to deal with several of them and they are full of promise until you actually try and order something, then it's like, "Oh no sorry, we can't possibly match those prices." Of course they can, they are just to greedy to do it. If any one of the locals had the brains to sell at city prices, they would capture the entire local market. As it is, local prices are 50 to 100% higher on most items.
Every single local supplier just seems intent on ripping you off for whatever they can, no scruples at all, they sicken me. All the shops are full of old junk, even the new stuff is outdated usually.
Normally, my Brisbane supplier is pretty good. They have a fairly large staff, (I estimate around 30), and they hire every few months as a rule. I can tell when a new guy answers the phone and I usually ask for one of the regulars so I don't get pissed about.
You walk into their office and it's standing room only, a crowd is usually waiting to be served. It's a very hectic place and you can see the staff are under a certain amount of pressure, I expect the odd mixup.
It's just that this time, someone didn't bother to make up my order on Friday afternoon as promised, and of course the Saturday morning rush stripped them of stock leaving me without my drives.
This wouldn't annoy me if I hadn't gone to so much time and trouble verifying the order in the first place, it's just sloppy business is all, and they don't give a rats because they just need more staff to cart the bags of money across the road to the bank.
Oh, I don't know what's it's like where any of you live, but in Brisbane, all the major online stores are chaos on Saturdays, and usually through the week as well.
I've seen lines a hundred metres long and 4 abreast waiting to get into Gamedude for example. It's mind boggling to think of the turnover they are doing. That was when Gamedude had a tiny little shop in the suburbs. Now they have a large warehouse and showroom, huge anti-Ramraid pillars and steel bars that make you feel like it's a tour of Alcatraz lol. More like Fort Knox I'd say.
