I am now getting back into the saddle after a 15 year break. I have a Honda Blackbird CBR 1100 XX. She is from 1999 but only has 50, 000 km on her, so over her life she has averaged about 300 km per month.... She was a great find, like new.

Wonderful news Matt!

You are back in the club again!... ....!

Honda CBR 1100 XX Super Blackbird?...a Big old Dog!

You must be a big strong Lad to fully manage that beast now!... ....!
A couple of my mates (now deceased) used to own Honda CBR 1000/1100's.

1992 Honda CBR 600 FM Supersport was my previous Honda version, got stolen in my front garden in 1996, and replaced with my present 1996 Honda CB 500RR Twin.
Even that was getting difficult to manage, high centre of gravity, and seat, tank, etc, far too high, resulting in it falling over on me!
I've still got her, stored, unused, indoors for the past 4 years!
My present Harley Davidson 72 1200 Sportster...dreamland!... Honda CMX 250C Rebel is more in line with my present age and strength....lightweight, low centre of gravity...and seat 26 inches from the ground....not so far to fall!... ...!

My present three bikes, the two Hondas and my baby Yamaha RXS-100, only cost me £65 TPFT* per year each to insure (Hastings Direct) which is pretty good for motorcycles!
My little 1976 50cc Yamaha FS1M is still in the workshop being rebuilt!

Have fun on your new bike Matt.... :D ....
...and, as they say...."keep the shiny-side up".... :D ...!

Take care!

Just a thought Foz: would it be cheaper to insure the bikes that are off the road on your house insurance (if they are not already covered), as they are much less of a liability. I had the same situation with a bike that I was restoring a few years ago. I just put the bike down as a specified valuable on the insurance form and it made very little difference to the premium.

...latest...

My new Clutch assembly has just arrived....from China...in a couple of days!.... ...!
Faster delivery than some local stuff!!

So I've got all the kit ready now to replace the clutch....full clutch plate assembly, new clutch case gasket, and 2 litres of 15/40 Mineral Oil...NOT Synthetic or Semi-synthetic...just good old-fashioned Mineral Oil...and frequent oil changes!

I just need to coax my lovely Son to do the job for me.... ...!

The sort of job I used to do myself, years ago...but I now plead insanity....and get someone else to do the job for me nowadays... ;) ... ...!

By the way...just thinking about Matt's new Honda CBR 1100 and the sheer size of it; fat tank, high seat, etc, I can remember the joy of riding my little Yamaha RXS-100 with its small, low tank, long comfy dual seat, normal foot-pegs, and handlebars!
So much easier to manage the old 1960's, 1970's, and early 1980's motorbikes with their normal, upright riding position!.

...like these...>>> https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=yamah ... 38&bih=810

Huddled over a large, bulky tank, and sitting on a tiny, hard seat 6 feet? from the ground, with cramped rear-set footrests, and clip-on handlebars is no longer a comfortable experience for me!....

...hence my new "Cruiser" style!... ...!

I just need a Harley Street Glide and a plane ticket to Santa Monica and West Coast Highway 1 now.... .... ...!

Sink..... ;) ...!

The beauty of a Council House (for 56 years).... :D ...!

They do all the insurance, painting, new stuff, repairs, etc!

I don't insure anything in my house...I just make sure that I switch the electric and gas off before I go to bed, shopping, visiting, etc.... ...!

£65 insurance is quite a bargain for a motorbike...cheap enough to keep them current for an occasional ride!
...old age and 65-year experience may also help somewhat!..... ;) ...!

I just need some nice warm sunny weather now, to go touring again!

My good lady wife has all bases covered.....She also knows I am not a risk taker and ride in a defensive manner.
You are right, the Blackbird is big, but an easy ride. Her size is a plus, a nice presence on the road. I only really notice her near 300kgs when having to perform a three pointer in my driver way or push her out of my garage, then she makes me sweat.....
I went out for a ride this afternoon. 110km later I thought it was time to call it a day.......I just did not want to go home..... :D

Hello my Biker Chums!

Summer is on its way in England, (and other folks on the same northern latitude), so its time to wheel our trusty machines out, and enjoy the warmth of Summer sunshine, after a dark, cold, wet, miserable (its always miserable) Winter!!

Last Saturday I popped down to one of my lovely Sons in the Forest of Dean, with a new clutch assembly (£60), to replace the present one which was giving me problems in trying to engage neutral at a standstill, and suffering horrendous (my new big word) clutch drag at the traffic lights with the bike in gear and the clutch lever fully pulled in!

Removed to old clutch assembly with the aid of a special tool to undo the special locking nut, oiled the new individual plates, and replaced the whole assembly, fitted a new case gasket, and topped up with 1.8 litres of new 15/40 Mineral Oil (not the fancy semi-synthetic malarkey).... :D ...!

The bike runs fantastic now with no more clutch drag, and no neutral problems!....Woo-Hoo!

Making the most of the warmer weather now, with daily tours around the countryside with my video camera recording my journeys!!

That is good news Paul, now don't drop it on your foot, or it will be a very short biking season for you.......

Never fear Matt, with my arse only 26 inches from the ground, my feet are well planted to keep me and the bike upright!.... ...!

Riding back from the Forest on Sunday afternoon, after getting the clutch fixed, I ran into torrential rain and flooded roads for the final 13 miles, and my trousers and feet (boots) were soaked to the skin due to the fact that on a cruiser bike ones feet and legs are stretched out in front on the foot pegs, rather than being tucked up high behind, on rear-sets, and out of the rain!

Ones lower limbs are certainly very exposed on cruiser bikes!.... ...!

I think I will need a pair of (Oxford) waterproof over-boots, to cope with rainy conditions!

After 65 years of riding "normal bikes", Harley-Davidson-type Cruisers sure take some getting used to!.... :o ....

....its a whole new learning curve....but loads of fun, and on a motorcycle; "fun" is what its all about!... :D ....!

Paul...hoping for a nice sunny day tomorrow...for some more..FUN.... ...!

Can't beat a Barbour suit Paul. It doesn't matter how Dorky you might look. Better to have a dry crotch than a sore one. :auto-sportbike:

An excellent tip, Log!
I've had them in the distant past, oily, waxed cotton, .....(and banned from sitting in other folks posh, comfy chairs!).... .... ...!

They were very popular in the 1950's....but then Cordura©, etc, armoured jackets and trousers came along, and that's what I currently wear....when I remember to don them BEFORE it rains!... :( ...!

Also very popular with country folk when shooting things, and bringing the Cows home for milking, (but not both at the same time).

I've got a selection of waterproof over-suits, for when I want to look like a frogman... ...!

A nice advert for the Barbour International motorcycle jacket..(bit expensive)....
(Note: Observe the jacket, rather than being mesmerised by the flailing arms).

Its going to be pouring with rain for the next few days, so its back to cooking and pretending to fly aeroplanes for a while... ...!

Funny..... ...motorists don't seem to suffer these problems....

I finally got rid of the 2008 CBR1000RR and bought a 2016 Fat Boy Low S. Should be ready for me to pick up on Friday. No more stiff neck for me now when I ride.

Fantabulous news!

Wow!....1,800cc motor, and 4-inch diameter pistons, they don't get much bigger than that, Tug!... ...!

...and with a 5-inch ground clearance (unladen!) and a 25 degree max lean angle, expect some floorboard fireworks on the sharp corners!... ...!

I think, probably the Harley Iron 883 Sportster would be more suitable for our narrow, twisty country roads!.... ...!
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_GB/Mo ... n-883.html

Ignoring the fact that my Daisy's motor is a parallel twin (both cylinders firing together at 360 degrees), rather than a nice, lumpy, 45 degree, vee-twin, she is more similar to the Harley "72" in appearance....(in my dreams!).... ....!
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_GB/Mo ... y-two.html

Lousy weather here at the moment, raining non-stop for days! Forecast better on Thursday, hopefully!
