FSX Settings-Scenery Library

Postby Flying Trucker » Wed Feb 17, 2016 4:00 am

Good Morning all...

FSX/Acceleration and Windows 10

I tried this morning to take a picture of my Settings-Scenery Library in FSX.

Ran FSX and opened Settings

Tried to take a picture by using "V" Key, Print Screen or Highlighting the Scenery Library

Nothing would work...must be doing something wrong in Windows 10

Can someone tell me if the below areas should be moved UP or DOWN?

1- FTXAA_OrbxLibs
2- FTX_AA_2S1....plus other airports
8-11 Orbx!OpenC-Europe1...Base
14-25 Ultimate Terrain
48-51 Orbx!Vector_obj_apt_cvx-exx
52-147 Base
148 Orbx!Vector_AEC
149 Default Scenery
150 Default Terrain

Thanks in advance... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Trucker, I believe you have to be in the default view window in order to take screen shots. For some reason, Win 10 doesn't recognize the expanded window view mode for much of anything other than to be a complete pain in the you know.
Happy flying.

Hello FT, the Orbx Library automatically places scenery files exactly where they need to be when you install them. So, you don't NEED to do anything.
If for some reason you want to move them the rule of thumb is: Global Base at the top, then Vector, then Open LC, then Scenery Areas, then Airports.

So Flacke I should move UP from the positions they are in now which was done by Orbx on install or Leave as is... :?:

#1 Stays the same
#48-51 move UP next under #1 to spots # 2,3,4&5
#148 move UP next to spot #6
#8-11 move UP next to spots # 7,8,9&10

The rest should be OK.

#14-25 Ultimate Terrain would be under the FTX Airports

I tend to leave things where they are automatically listed, in the Library....

...unless there is an obvious problem when running the program.

Paul.... :D ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Good morning Paul...

I purchased the Orbx package that was supposed to represent Canada...

To be honest I don't think these folks know anything about Canada and it's scenery, terrain etc. Lots of airports are missing and there are buildings on farm strips that look like they belong at an International Airport.

FTX Central 2 FSX
-FTX Global Base Pack
-FTX Global openLCNC Alaska/Canada
-FTX Global Vector

I was wondering if the reason the program shows so poorly it is installed in the wrong location in the FSX Scenery Library.

I have left everything the way FSX Downloaded it in the Scenery Library until I can get more info.

Such as is Ultimate Terrain interfering with Orbx and things like that.

I am a great believer in the "KISS" principal...Keep It Simple Stupid...but I also like to get my pension worth out of a product...

This is what I know about the Scenery library in any FS program.
I find it hard to believe that any program can automatically know where to put scenery as it would have to be able to read the Scenery.CFG file in order to do this. And even than how would it know what to put where.
The best way to describe the scenery process is to think of a blank sheet of paper than you start putting images on it one at a time.
FS scenery files have a description as to where on the sheet of paper to put a image at.
What you want to do is to make sure that the scenery is placed in the correct order. By default any new scenery will be put at the top of the library which means that that is the first thing displayed.
In order to know where to put any scenery you have to know if there is other scenery in the same area.
When scenery is first created the designer has to clear a area in order to place the image they want by using commands such as FLATTEN AND EXCLUDE
The bottom line is that what works for you might not work for someone else because of the different scenery involved. So what each person has to do is after installing any scenery check out the area where the scenery is supposed to be and see if there is any thing out of place such as a tree in the middle of a runway or taxiway or any thing that looks out of place if you find some thing wrong than try putting the new scenery at the bottom of the list this usually solves most problems.
Now mind you MESH files are different they are designed to blend into a existing area so you might want to put them first. That is why they are called MESH files
The only way to describe this process is trail and error
But PLEASE what ever you do BACK UP YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES PLEASE!!!!
I am not trying to say others are incorrect here but the bottom line is no two systems are exactly the same unless both systems are using only default scenery than they will be identical
But once you start adding any scenery your system is unique so when you add ORBIX to your system the files could be placed in a different order than anyone else that uses ORBIX as well as they could have other scenery you do not have
So it is impossible for anyone to tell you the exact order your scenery needs to be in with out knowing all of the scenery you have and the order it is displayed

Orbx Forums are probably the best place to get an answer about their products.

Hello Flying Trucker, getting back to your original concerns. The best thing for you to do at this point is to download and install the latest "Orbx Library" file. It will automatically put things where Orbx wants them to be. Then , leave that alone and don't move anything.
Then fly FXS for a while and see how it all works. If there is an OBVIOUS ISSUE you could move things according to the rule of thumb. If all seems well then follow the Fozzer procedure and don't touch anything. Good luck.

Hay, Doug! Remember - don't try to fly in areas that you know well.

Probably like 99% of the people who bought FSX, I tried to fly over my house. What I saw was one of the reasons that I was about to toss it in the trash!

If FSX was THAT BAD in my area..... Throw the dmd thing in the trash!!!!!!

I usually start my flights in Concrete, Washington (3w5). It's one of the "high detail" small towns/airports.

I think that it looks GREAT! But I can pretty much guarantee that a local flying the same scenery is FSX would hate it.

The best we can do right now is to fly outside of our area of experience, and in an area that is somewhat believable.

As to the order of things, if I'll be flying in an Orbx area I'll use FTX Central 2 to change, or confirm, the selection of the area. After all, it's in their best interest to make that area look its' best.

There are a few places, and types of scenery, such as photoreal, where I will arrange the order. But those are rare.

The other thing about FTX Central 2 is that it will find and install the updates for you. Again, it's in their best interest to make the areas look their best so you'll buy more.

If I recall correctly, you have some competing Canadian scenery textures. In some areas that may cause a scenery problem. Some people say that you can, and some people say that you can not mix them. At least not in the same areas.

Goodly Morning Old Airmail... :D

Yes I was just told that by one of our Son's, it is a shame because there are five Bugsmasher Grass Strips with trailers for club houses for the invited to drop into within a hour of us. They are not even shown. The Highways run through some Hangars on the Military and Commercial Airports.

I think Orbx is tweaked as far as I can go with it.

Much thanks for your comments and have a look at the Video I am about to post...it will make you smile, your eyes water and look into your wallet... ;)

Which is what I have been doing for the past 20 years in the Flight Sims

The areas that I visit in the South West USA look believable realistic in comparison to my maps, and photographs of the area which I tour, enriched by the various Scenery and Mesh add-ons which I have installed....

....but you can bet your boots, to the folks who actually live there, the scenery which they observe at ground level looks nothing like what we see in our Flight Sims!

My Flight Sim trips along Highway 1, from 'Frisco to LA, looks nothing like the same trip viewed on You-Tube!

...and my trips along Highway 395 in Owen's Valley, in my Flight Sim, doesn't involve travelling through the delightful small towns on the way; Lone Pine, Independence, and Bishop. etc!

...and Highway 120 trip through Yosemite National Park, beneath El Capitan Mountain, in a Flight Sim Cessna 150?....
...forget it!

We need a very vivid imagination to fool ourselves into thinking that what we see down below is for real!

But what I do see, satisfies me, within the obvious limitations of The Flight Sim!

I just avoid going anywhere near; "England"...where I live....'cos its nothing like; "Real"!.... ;) ....!
