We put 12 people on the moon 40 years ago with less computing power than your phone.

We know how astrophysics works.

The moon goes round the earth. Right?

That don't mean that the earth isn't flat, or that the sun doesn't go around the earth, does it?

As to when we got to the moon, that's simple - 1950.

I watched the whole thing on TV when I was just a little kid, so I know what I know.

PS - for you guys who aren't science nuts like me, that was 65 years ago. Facts are facts, and I know what I know.

Don't need to know nothin' else.

No, a simple observation of the horizon would tell you that the Earth isn't flat.

Yeah, well, it's not like flat, it's more like an inverted plate flat. You have to realise that the Earth is heavy like and bends a bit, that's why you see the horizon as sorta curved. Believe me it's flat. :liar:

Exactly, its so simple and yet some people just don't understand that the Earth is pretty heavy. I think that Copernicus is to blame for all the misunderstanding. How does the Earth know where the Sun is? and why the hell would it want to go around the Sun anyhow? Copernicus made all his misleading statements hundreds of years ago when they didn't know nothing. They didn't have iPhones, iPads or even calculators, so what makes him think he's so smart.

This effect is very easy to confirm.

Take a Cessna 150 up to about 42,361 (+ or - 3) feet and you can see where it sags at the edges.

BTW - for you science nuts out there - the curving at the edges was caused by Archimedes' lever.

This old Greek guy (or maybe Lithuanian??? Some old guy for sure) stuck a really long stick between the Earth and the elephants, and pried it away from the turtle's back.

Naturally, it started to sag at the edges. :confusion-shrug:

Old fool should have known better than to go mucking about with nature.

Almost right OAM, Copernicus was British, you can tell from the way he spells his name Coper (short for copper) ni (Any) Cus (cuss). The rest is quite right and I stand corrected, it's not the weight of the Earth that causes the bend, but the Archie Medes effect, what you said.

OldAirmail, I have been to FL450 several times in various LearJets. I can confirm that at that altitude the flat Earth with its slowly downward bending edges is very apparent. The sky is a "perfect black" up there and the stars are so bright and clear that its quite moving the first time you see it. Too bad your C-150 can only do FL420. Perhaps a TurboCharger installation would get you the extra climb and alt.

And thanks for posting that Documentary film about the 1950 Moon landing. I thought I was the only one that knew about it. Everybody else seems to be fixated on the theatrical presentation about a " first landing" on the Moon in 1969. That didn't fool me for a minute. When a real Moon landing is imminent, the Cows all form a circle facing each other and say something that sounds like "mooooooo". If its just a movie, they eat grass and look bored. Every farmer knows that.

And FOZZER, I too have experienced ASTROPHYSICS whereby my ass clamped shut violently when I cruised into a tight curve on the highway at high speed on my Motorcyles. Its a feeling that you never forget if you are lucky enough to live through it. Its similar to how I felt at my Wedding when I heard a voice that sounded like mine saying..........." I DO".

True science is a wonderful thing.

It's sad that they don't make more Science Films (usually referred to as SF) like they did in the '50s & '60s.

Back then you could learn about EVERYTHING from SF movies. Things like what kind of people live on the moon, how tall a woman can get (50 feet).

No wonder kids today don't know nuthin'.

Depending on the generation Godzilla grew up to 108 meters (355 feet) tall. Pretty good for a lizard.

A 50 ft. tall Wife sounds like a good idea at first, but the more you think about it the "problems" would outweigh the benefits. I am glad there was only one 50 ft tall woman.

On the other hand, a 355ft. tall Lizard is bad news from the get-go. It might be tasty on the BBQ grill but nobody needs that much meat. Glad there was only one of those also.
