Canoe Replacement?

Postby Flying Trucker » Thu Dec 05, 2013 1:06 pm

Goodly afternoon all... <<u

Not only did the Bush/Light Utility Aircraft replace the canoe for many trips but carried the canoe aloft also.

The Cessna 337 was not a suck and blow like the jet aircraft but a push and pull making it an unique aircraft.

One of the nicest twins we have privately owned and also operated in commercial service the Cessna 337 was a good platform for aerial fire spotting. Not sure if a Cessna 337 was ever put on floats/amphibious floats but that would have been really unique.

FSX and Windows 7
Flight Simulator Water Configurator set to Steve's settings
Aircraft: Cessna 337 Pay Ware
Time: Mid-morning
Season: Late Fall/Autumn...most leaves have fallen off the trees
Location: North of Toronto, Muskoka Cottage Country

Cloudy morning over cottage country during late Fall/Autumn...

Nice cockpit with a bank to starboard...

Nose of aircraft rolls starboard prior to the Muskoka Airport with Highway 400 to the right of the airport...

Right Glad I though about using the aeroplane to replace the canoe...it can be a long walk between Beaver Ponds...

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)

Cessna 337!

Blimey Doug!... :o ....!

You have actually owned and piloted one of these very expensive, complex, high maintenance, push-pull twins?... ....!

Lucky you!

On a par with a Beech Baron 58 for overall expense!

We don't see too many of them over here. Quite popular with well-flushed Aircraft Racing enthusiasts... :D ...!

Good morning Paul... <<q

We first purchased the Cessna 336 without the retractable gear and then we traded that for a Republic Seabee which was traded for the Cessna 337.

We as a family soon out grew the Cessna 337 but the eighteen months we had it the aircraft performed flawlessly.

It took several years before the Cessna 337 caught on here but our one son and I flew a Cessna 337 for fire spotting when I had time off from my regular flying career.

If I want to go somewhat reasonably quickly in a piston prop, I choose..

(a) Beech Baron 58TC.(Turbo-charged).
(b) Cessna 337.
(c) Cessna 182 RG.

All round about the same speed with their retractable gear up!

Paul..."Gyrocopting" at the moment...loads of fun, around Utah (U77)...>>> http://airgyro.com/

Hi Paul... <<t

Myself I prefer the twin radial engine aircraft but it is difficult to find a good Freeware one that works well in FSX.

I use the Beech 18 sometimes.

We saw a Flying Lawn Chair with a Lawnmower Motor attached to it just the other day buzzing about our bugsmasher field.

The pilot was bundled in a snowmobile suit and with the outside temperature around zero degrees Celsius he must have been cold...

My trips to the bugsmasher field or anywhere else have been severely curtailed because of my broken foot. Cast off after five weeks and now it is swollen again...
The old girl is making me stay off it and the air boot I had to buy, well I just can not get used to it...

Got a feeling that I will be doing a little more simulated flying now, perhaps will try that on line flying you do...

You should try that Doug, its fun. ;)
But a warning, you need to move fast, if you want to keep up with Paul O0

My turbo-charged Cessna 150 Aerobat has already got a terrifying reputation for speed amongst the on-line Multiplayer Pilots.... ...!

But at the moment I am quite enjoying flying (slowly) around Utah in my new Xenon Gyroplane....

Good morning all... ;)

Right on Kurt, Paul has made some serious modifications to some or all of his simulated aeroplanes.

Wish I was that talented...

Paul, we often chew the rag about the cost of Homebuilt and Kit aeroplanes at the bugsmasher field and the trend is many of us can't justify the price and time to build the kit.

Today a good Cessna or Piper bugsmasher can be picked up with little work and at a reasonable price.

Having owned several Motor Bikes, the old girl and I have not rode a motorcycle in a good many years, I always wondered why someone would buy a motorcycle that cost more than a four door sedan.
Especially when that is the only mode of transportation they own.

I like to be warm and cozy in the rain and snow when driving...

An ultra light aeroplane is probably great for flying around the cabbage patch but for cross country and camp outs I think it would be limited to what it could carry.

Motor Bikes, Doug.... ;) ...!

My enthusiasm derived from pillion rides on my Uncles Motor bike in the 1940's.
On my 16th Birthday in 1950 my dear old Dad bought me my first motor bikes; Sun 98cc, quickly followed with a Royal Enfield 350cc Bullet...
..and I was hooked forever!
Since then I have owned a succession of different Motorcycles both British and Japanese, (and a couple of Motor Cars in the meantime), but my preference is for the freedom and fresh air, (though sometimes cold!), and overall, the lack of getting stuck in modern traffic jams.
It is because of the frustration of stationary traffic in towns that I appreciate the freedom that my two wheels gives me to negotiate my way through the bedlam..and away!
I permanently garaged my Austin Motor Car in 1990, and I haven't used it on the road since, much preferring to travel daily, everywhere, on my Motor bikes!
Minimum cost, both in insurance, road tax, fuel consumption, maintenance, spares, garaging, etc....and I get free parking everywhere I go!

Its just a bit cold in the Winter, if I don't dress-up properly!.... :o ...!
....and everything I carry must fit into my Haversack on my back!

Aeroplanes?
...they just exist in my imagination via Microsoft Flight Simulators... ...!

Paul....wind in the hair...flies in the teeth...Motorbikes!.... ...!

Tip: ....Bike it...you'll like it!... :D ...!

Thanks Paul...

I mentioned this post to the old girl and told her I thought we were too old to ride motor bikes now. Was not sure we could do it.

Her reply was it was like riding a horse, once you have done it you never forget...

HMMM...it has been two decades at least since I rode a horse... :violin:

"Pedal Cycling" is the rage over here at the moment, with some of the hi-tech Cycles costing thousands of pounds!

.....its a "fitness" thing... :o ...!

Me?....I've always preferred a petrol engine fitted between the "pedals".... ...!

Its surprising the number of "oldies" who ride Motor Bikes, and who can be seen at the various; "Bike Meets"...back to childhood again... ...!

Paul....its just the Bikes weight which can be a problem, if you are a lightweight tiny-tot, weakling, like me!... ...!

Hi Paul

I had no problem handling a Indian, Enfield or Harley D.

Do you remember the two stickers?...

The old girl had an Indian with a sidecar to take the kids for a ride... :o

Bicycling, most forms of martial arts, soccer, hockey and activities/sports like jogging and skating are pretty much standard here.

Many motorcycle clubs including several military clubs comprised of retired military folks are high profile here raising funds for Military Families through various motorcycle runs.

I would think that the Twin V Motorcycle Engine should be powerful enough to lift one person on a ultra light aircraft but I do remember folks purchasing the old Volkswagen Beetles just for the Air Cooled Engines to mount on their homebuilt aircraft.

The rag and tube Breezy and the Volmer Flying Boat were two examples where the uncovered VW engine was used. I think both these types were too heavy for the best of the motorcycle engines.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volmer_VJ-22_Sportsman

Do you remember what motor bike and sidecar the Two Fat Ladies rode on. That was one of the Cooking Shows the old girl and I seldom missed... ;)
