Out of runway

Postby gilly_is_alive » Sat Nov 10, 2007 11:20 am

Overloaded and on too short a runway in too poor conditions, the lackadaisical captain mis-judged the amount of glaze icing that had accumulated on the wing surface between the de-icing stand and the runway.

You can almost feel the stress of the pilots there. Awesome shot and story.

Cor! I can feel my chest tightening as I look at this, especially at the undercarriage as it just about tiptoes into the air.

The same phrase keeps going over in my mind, "C'mon baby, C'mon!"

Inspired by the crash of the 737 crash out of Ronald Regan maybe?

Just remembered, one of the examples of de-icing crashes we used as examples in class was the challenger 604 which took off with ice from birmingham international in 2002 without de-icing.  All on board are were killed.

I am reminded of that Air Florida flight that crashed into the Potomac due to improper de-icing, but with a happy ending this time.

Heavy bird, heavy takeoff, pilot who will need a bat to translate him for a few days, all in there! ;D ;)

Good luck!
