While that's not really a place a spectator would stand, it's still a really good shot
That's 20,000 points!

I'll get 'em...
[Hilarity ensues]
All I got to do now is find a one-legged nun walking a goat and I win.

LOL IT WONT MELT A HOLE IN THE RUNWAY!!!
PLENTY OF FIGHTER TOOK OFF WITH BURNERS AT AVALON!

F-16, F/A-18A, F/A-18 SUPER HORNET(WHICH IS THE ONE IN THE PIC), F-11 AND F-15 ALL TOOK WITH FULL BURNERS! NO HOLES IN THE RUNWAY AND THE F-15 LITERALLY TOOK OFF VERTICLE SO THE BURNERS WHERE DIRECTLY HITTING THE RUNWAY.

phew

Layne is quite right here!

The Afterburner doesn't interact with the Runway long enough for it to melt the concrete, although I'm sure with prolonged exposure (over a minute or two), it might cause some small problems on the runway. More like tar, I'd guess.

It wouldn't melt a hole though.

Terrific shot man, might want to air those tires up though    :D

As for the conflict here, I have to back them up, our hornets take off in full burner here all the time as well, it's terrific at night, and I'm pretty sure our runway is hole-free.

And besides that, it's a simulator, not reality, why not have some fun with it and break some rules?   ;D

Yeah seriously, for those of you that don't know, the JBD's on an aircraft carrier... you know the things that go up behind the plane to deflect the after burner for up to 15 or 20 seconds while the cat officer gets the launch? They aren't steel like the deck, they're concrete.

ok first off i know that they use burners on a carrier hwever it is not advised to useburners on tarmac as it WILL melt and get scorched, an example of this was at riat 2005 where a typhoon pilot used his burners extreamly close to the runway similar to that of takw off and nearl lost his job as the runway was unserviceable for a while and unsafe to land on.

still not clear it up here is a little example of how they can be dangerous http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/VA-news/VA-Pi ... 300269.htm

not can we stop this here.

I was at an airshow yesterday and distinctly saw an F-15 take off with full burner on tarmac.
