SimV's Greatest Aircraft Hall Of Fame/All Category

Postby Clipper » Wed Mar 22, 2006 7:16 am

The votes are in and it's official, The Spitfire rules the SimV skies! Thanks to everyone who participated and looked in. Could there be a more appropriate way to finish the poll than with a few words from Ozzy on the magnificence of this classic aircraft?....

Image

Well I'm totally not surprised by the winner because she is one of the most iconic aircraft of all time. She lives up to the maxim of "If she looks right she'll fly right".
Whether it is the earlier models (the most manufactured being the V)
Image
The unusual type 509 (Tr.9) two-seater (and the first one I sat in!)
Image
Or her mighty final incarnation the Mk.24
Image
The Spitfire always looks good with her graceful lines and elliptical wings.
A lady for all seasons airshows ;D

I am amazed... :o...!

You overly-excited, "Spitfire" lot obviously have not yet encountered Fozzer's delightful Cosmos Flexwing... :o...!

I think it's one of the greatest fighters, but not one of the greatest aircraft. Oh well, hope to see a real aircraft win in the future if their will ever be a real vote for the a new poll of the greatest aircraft. ::) ;D

Hmmm... somehow I had a feeling it would win  ::) :D

Now I want, no, DEMAND, that every single living member of SimV explain to me why the Cri-Cri didn't win? It is a marvel of miniaturisation! The culmination of a century of aeronautical R+D. It is a wee miracle. ;) :D
It truly deserves our ultimate accolades!

Essays on "Why in the name of all that is good and worthy I was so utterly stupid as to prefer the Spitfire over the Cri-Cri" must be no less than 500 words in length (NOT including the title) but may be as long as you like.

Please check spelling, grammar and punctuation before submitting.

Submissions to be handed in before October 32nd, 2009.

A prize of a dictionary will be given to the winning entrant.

Cheers... and thanks Clipper for providing yet another entertaining competition!!!
