The good news: The stuff works now.

The bad news: CTD after 15 mins. Shouldn't happen anymore after the 9.1 patch...

Are you getting the Flight Simulator has encounterd a problem box?

If so, check the error...see what you get!

Oh!  And crash the Macintosh!  Just turn it and the Avioncis on then turn the Avionics back off then on again!

The error message is pretty funny!  And you can rub in the noses of all your Mac-Girl friends in it (you know, the ones who say that Macs are the best computer the way some people argue religion).

A  cool feature!

Yup.

I've e-mailed the author about it...maybe he'll know of a fix or work-around ;)

Mr. Rutan can design something like this and have people take it seriously. More great shots.

I wonder what "practical" solution he was trying to overcome with this design..... .

I think this is a case of "because I can".   ;)

Wow, thanks for all the nice words!

I am glad to see so many people like the 'Rang as much as I do.

As for the crashing... hmmmmmrrrrrr.mmmmm

I have a feeling I know what it might be. I have used a fairly recent custom sound gauge for the Mac panel, and I think it might interfere with fssound.dll, which is a pre-2004 dll (if my memory serves me correctly...). I remember having problems with fssound.dll until I added this line to FS9.cfg:

[OLDMODULES]
fssound.dll=1

fs9.cfg can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

I think the Meggitt 2100 AP uses fssound.dll, so there may be some conflict between that new sound gauge I used and the older fssound.dll

A way of testing might be to rename Boomerang_Sound.gau (should be in your Gauges folder) so that FS does not find it. This will disable the Mac sounds to see if that speeds things up.

Another way of speeding it up would be to remove the Mac "logic" gauge which runs the Mac splash screens. To do this you will have to unpack the rutan_boomerang.CAB file (delete the CAB once it is unpacked so FS9 finds the right files) to a folder called rutan_boomerang in your gauges folder. This will speed up the panel loading a little, but you could also delete mac_logic.XML which will probably provide quite a speed boost to the panel.

Hopefully some of this will help stop the crashes. Of course, you may just be toggling the Avionics switch too much ;-)

Good to see someone got the Mac Crash joke! That crash screen is mostly an authentic OSX crash screen, for all those Macs-Never-Crash people out there. Mostly authentic - I added some bits to make it more interesting!

Anyway, on to the next plane....

Cheers,

That did the trick!

The plane no longer crashes, or freeze when I start!

I flew the plane a bit to watch for a crash (didn't happen).  I even shut down one of the engines to try it out, handled a lot like the Lancair Legacy: sensitive, needs a gentle hand...but smooth when you get the sweet spot!

Adrian Esdaile...thank you so much for getting back to me, and for posting here!

Okay, now there are a couple of things...I am posting here to see if anyone else has noticed this...

I cannot manually tune the COM or NAV radios, whereas I can tune the ADF and OBS with the radio knob (making VOR a bit impossible...)  Anyone else notice that?

Any Ideas?

The last bit (not really big at all), is that the AP only intializes in the air...for some reason I can't get it to start on the ground.

I'll try unpacking the rest of the CAB files and see if that helps...they are in my C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\Rutan_Boomerang\panel folder and not my C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\gauge folder, so if anyone tries the unpacking trick in the gauge folder and it crashes, move it to the panel folder...

Sorry one last thing, does the VC light up at night, or just the gauges (just wondering if I missed something during installation)...

Thanks again!

Didn't work, already been in my fs9.cfg...

Didn't work.

But I guess you can't always have everything. Anyways, from what I've seen of the Boomerang,it's an excellent plane. I wonder what you'll be doing next.
(I suggest a Bellanca Viking or a Dornier 328...)
