"wait and see"  key words to any topic in the FSX fourm  ;)  Also  if you dont like the reflections i am willing to bet you can turn them off  ;D  you can turn off almost evrything independently in fs9 right? so i expect this to happen in fsx. Even if you have to edit a CFG file.  Also as someone said  its new and M$ wont get it right the first time. they naver have, anyone rember fs2002 atc?  not good was it?  fs9 is the SECOND version pf ATC and it still sucks.. so we will just "wait and see"  ok?

I know things reflect I simple said it may be to much. Look at the pics that were posted, are they nice clean sheets of water with a big "sun" on it? I am sure they will downplay it anyways, prolly just wanted to show it off.  That FS screenshot just gives me the impression that that airport is perfectly level and the engineeres did not add a single drainage or slope, not "As Real As It Gets" imho but like current FS water there will be hundreds of variations we will be able to choose from so people can have super reflective or not so reflective.

Wow, look what a conversation I sparked here.  ;D
Anyways, as most things in Flight Simulator somebody can probably change it.
So before long there will be runway reflections to suit everybody, just like there are many different kinds of water files now.  :)

The ex pat: Sorry if you feeled 'put down'
it was not my intention to do that, but reflections on runways ARE possible.

WOW! That's what I love about Simviation, everyone has VERY strong opinions!

He's my contribution, to stir it up a bit ( ;)), there is a difference between a wet surface and a soaking wet surface. A damp surface will relect some light but won't produce a regonisable 'reflection' as such but a soaking surface will give a reasonable reflection. Simple.

If you look at the official FSX picture, you'll note it is raining. NO drainage system can disperse water imediately so there will always be at least a small amount of standing water on a runway or taxiway that has not had a chance to run off. There is another factor that is unique to airports, camber. Roads have a curve or camber to the surface so that water can run off quickly into the drains. Runways do not, therefore, water will drain slower and there is more chance of standing water even when it has stopped raining.

After this debate is finished though, it is more than apparent that reflections will be part of FSX, to what degree though, we'll have to wait and see.

and let's all remind ourselves that this is a piece of software for less than US100.00 .... to even have wet-look is wonderful.  To have the wet look randmized to account for the slight undulations in the pavement, fantastic.

Now, for the real question... will FS-X simulate weeds coming up through the cracks in airports with questionable grounds maintenance?

While it might be a nice gimmick I would prefer to see runways that are not dead flat. Landing down a considerable gradient at some airfields I know can be very challenging.

How about "considerable gradient and curving" to boot!

In some of my edits I have had feedback on my attempt at runway reflection. From that and studying photos and seeing real wet runways.... I can say this:

1) The more water on the runway, the intenser the reflection.
2) Still water will produce perfect reflections but because water is usually never still on a runway the reflection will be somewhat distorted.

Other factors are indeed the light intensity, the perspective and the runway material.

Yer all wrong.  When it rains, microscopic frogs fall down in the milliions, each with little mirrors.  These then automatically sense which way the people are looking and position the mirrors to face in the viewer's direction.  Unfortunately, they need moisture to survive so as the track dries out, the little frogs die, and quickly decompose.
