Lufthansa emergency

Postby ozzy72 » Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:25 pm

Well I thought it'd be a routine Heathrow to Berlin haul in my DC-10, but things were to prove otherwise, firstly snow in England! Which explains what happened later on, as all the engineers were hiding indoors with their cups of tea rather than maintaining my plane >:(
So out of Heathrow in the snow :o

Climbing to altitude when my ASI went on the fritz, nothing serious...
Image
Seconds before disaster struck and engines 1 and 2 shutdown and wouldn't restart. The DC was yawing everywhere over Holland and I decided to declare an emergency :o :o :o
Image
Cloud base at 3000 feet, and I had to come in under it, and ATC had done their usual pants job of getting me lined up with the runway :P I reckon Rotterdam ATC were stoned ::)
Image
Turning on final and juggling all the controls to try and maintain sufficient steerage for an emergency landing :-X
Image
Kissing the tarmac (just) :-X
Image
Tyres screaming I come to a halt and shutdown and await the emergency services to evacuate the passengers and crew... when I get back to London some mechanic is going to experience a monkey-wrench to the back of the head >:(
Image
Remember to practice emergency landings and dead-sticks, you never know when it might save your life ;)

Great shots Ozzy, I like the first one.

So I guess you found another way to torment the passengers other than flying them inverted under bridges ;D :P

Marvelous work! :o
I like shot 8 (2nd to last)- staring down the runway...

Nice piloting, ozzy- But I'm sure that was no more challenge than safely flying an inverted AN225 between the radio towers on the John Hancock Building.
