The BIG Apple

Postby YodaNYC » Sat Jul 17, 2004 10:38 pm

Watching the planes fly by my apartment on the way to KLGA this evening was the inspiration for the following shots.  I live along the Hudson River which is on the approach path to both runways 13 and 22 at KLGA.  With the winds coming from the southwest at this time of year, I get great views of both LGA bound planes, as well as KEWR and KTEB in New Jersey...

Here we are flying along the Hudson with midtown Manhattan in the background...you can se the Empire State Building, the Chrysler building, and the apartments lining Central Park South...Heading for runway 22...

Over the threshold at runway 22 with the Manhattan skyline in the distance...Passengers on the right side of the plane have a view of Riker's Island prison and those on the left Shea Stadium...

From another angle with the Whitestone Bridge in the background...

Spoilers deployed as we come to a stop...

I understand where you are coming from YodaNYC. I work at 138th and Willis ave in the bronx just west of Laguardia. On mornings when there is a hint of fog or low clouds over the city. Those airliners fly in real low! This morning was an example of that because they were so low I could read the flight number on the tailend of the aircraft as they were coming in (from the roof of a 20 story building!

It is fun watching them fly by and hearing the roar of the engines pitching up and down as they prepare to land at LaGuardia.
