Newark Departure

Postby YodaNYC » Fri May 21, 2004 10:30 pm

A couple of screenies of a Continental 737-400 departing Newark on a beautiful Friday afternoon...

Ready to spool engines at runway 4L...

Image

Taken by a lucky spotter driving by on the New Jersey Turnpike...

Looks like Staten Island below with an inbound JFK flight in the background...

I live in Staten Island!  I watch Newark's air traffic heading out to the atlantic from my Office window!  Sweet!

Steve:

It's Erik.  Back to SI for the summer?

I've got a great view of Newark's 22L final approach path from my apartment in the city.  On a clear day you can pick them up as they make their right turn over Teteboro and follow 'em all the way to the Turnpike.

Mike:

Yes it is.  Sorry that the shots are a bit choppy...I will post the arrival shots now and I think the quality is better.

Unfortunately no.  Since we live on the 16th floor I do have a great view of the turn from my couch.  When I fly into Newark (in real life) I can see my apartment building if I am on the left side of the plane.

We are also on the LaGuardia approach for runways 22 & 13.  Planes come up the Hudson at 3,000 feet before entering the final approach pattern for runway 22 (up and around the Whitestone bridge).  Much lower, around 2,000 feet, before making a right hand turn onto the runway 13 glideslope.

You must get some JFK traffic, no?

Yup, but i live on the northshort of staten island near the goethals, so i get some low newark traffic pretty often.  But I do see JFK traffic heading out over the atlantic  :D
