Dodging the storms.

Date: Feb 1st 1950. Time 17.30 local time.
Place: Innsbruck.
Weather: Storms building over the mountains.
Aircraft: Lufthansa Douglas DC4 Cargo.
Mission: To deliver urgent medical supplies, at any cost, to Southern Germany which has been hit by torrential storms and flooding.

Off and away in the fading light.

Climbing through gaps in the building storms.

Thats a big one going off over my departure point.

Found a nice clear path and enjoying the smooth air.

Watching the light fade

WOAH!! where did that one come from!!

Starting our decent.
Image
Tried to land on a flooded runway aquaplaned and stuffed it in the soft ground at the side of the runway.

Mission accomplished !
Aircraft damage ... Write off.
Crew ... Minor injuries.
Cargo ... slightly damaged but still useable.
Lives saved 1000s.

I'd be careful doing things like that, the missus can get v.jealous ;) And as we all know "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" :-X

Nice work and flying! Lovely aircraft. Nothing beats a classic.

Obviously written by personal experiences...

Eno - nice screenshots by themselves, but it's the weaving of the story line that makes them even better.
