Sock Flies Europe:

Postby Sock » Sat Apr 17, 2004 3:35 pm

Hi everybody!  Yesterday was the last time you'll being hearing about Africa from me.  It's on to bigger (not really) and better things, namely Greece;

I was bored playing Indiana Jones.  I roamed the streets, visited the library, the museums, and the old fort where the ancient lighthouse once stood.  It was much like Cairo the day before.  I only stayed for that one day, and then kept going in the morning.

The night before I left was just as restless as the previous one.  I wanted to get out of Egypt.  So I got up rather early again and grabbed a cab to Alexandria International getting there at about six.

The sun was still rising as I did my preflight and ran up the engines.

Image

I waited my turn at the active for a MD-80 to take off.  It ran down the runway, lifted off into the sky, and turned to the northeast.

Image

I rolled out onto the runway, pushed the trottle forward and Peggy roared into the morning sky.

Image

I flew over the city one last time, and then turned out over the sea.

Image

The sun rose and Egypt slipped away.

Image

One of my longer flights over water lay ahead.  I wanted to reach the Greek island of Crete to refuel, and I'd find my way to Athens from there...

Image

As I reached Crete the traffic, out of what I asumed was Athens, got heavier and the cloud cover thickened.

Image

Image

I finally caugth sight of Crete.

Image

It was right in front of me, and it was green!

The island was full of sandy beaches, green grass and green trees, and probably tourists.  It was a beautiful island.

Image

On the northeastern side of the island I found a little airport called Kasteli.  I called in my position and annouced my intentions.

On final, I brought back the trottle, dropped the flaps, and dropped the landing gear.

Image

Peggy touched down and rolled to a stop mid-field.  I turned her around and moved her to the pumps for a drink.

Sorry, but you're all going to have to wait untill next Saturday for Athens.  I have school next week, and probably a math test. :(

Yeah my Spring break ends Monday. :'( I hate that "time flies while you're having fun" bit!  Should be the other way around. :)

Thanks Geforce...Man, I could stare at your avatar for hours and not get bored. ;D
