can only say one thing great god dam plane""""

i just started designing some planes in flight shop design studio and have a few questions maybe you can help me with. Most of my planes would look a hell of alot better if i could put some testures on them.
i have photo shop seven and have been fooling around with some texture templats but always fail in the end.
what would you suggest for software and tutorial aimed at newbies like me?
