Ferrying a Junkers JU-52 - Part 1

Postby BFMF » Sat Feb 14, 2004 1:14 am

Here's a job I'm doing for Bush Flying Unlimited. I volunteered to ferry an old Junkers JU-52 from Adak Is, AK (PADK) to Port Angeles (KNOW), over 2300 nm following the coast. I thought I would post the first leg here, and if anyone is still interested, I'll keep posting untill I reach my destination.

I was never a good writer, so bear with me, and if you have any suggestions, I could sure use them ;)

Leg 1 PIREP

As my pager went off, I took a glance at the lit-up display and noted that It was the Airboss. "It's not very often that he pages me so early in the morning", I thought to myself. I was already enroute and an hour away from Anchorage so it would have to wait untill I land. Once in Anchorage, I used the nearest phone I could find and quickly called him.

"Where Are you?" He asked

"I just arrived in Anchorage" I replied.

"I've got a special job that I think you may be interested in"

"Really? What kind of job?" I asked.

"Heather won an old Junkers JU-52. The only problem is that it's over on Adak Island, but she's too busy to go get it. Right now, she's specifically requesting that an experienced BFU pilot ferry it to Port Angeles."

"I would love to do it!", I exclaimed.

"I'll let Heather know you're on the way. Good luck"

I grabbed my suitcase that I've been living out of for the last few months, and after taking a couple commuter flights, I finally ended up on Adak Island late afternoon.

Once I located the hangar, I found the maintenance crew finishing up with an oil change. After showing my ID to previous owner, we finished up some paperwork for the aircraft transfer, and insisted that I take the aircraft up for a little while to get a feeling of

I'm interested Andrew. That must be the new FS9 release of Piertros fabulous Junkers. I've downloaded it but I haven't played with it yet.
The 2k2 version was mindblowingly brilliant!!!

I'm glad you're interested, so I'll continue posting the legs as I continue ;)

That's the one, filename is ju52v60.zip. And this version is still mindblowingly brilliant ;)

My only complaint is that all the gauges are metric. This means that I was flying at 5000 metres while cruising at 210 km/h, and I need to put 1200 litres of fuel in each tanks ::)

Even so, I would highly suggest it! 8)

And Silent, I'll include a shot that shows more of the VC in my next leg ;)
