***Trans - Canada Adventure Leg 19***

Postby Cherokee_6 » Mon Jan 05, 2004 12:06 pm

Hello Everyone!

After enjoying a few days fishing on the Skeena River, it was time to pack up and keep heading south.
I was looking forward to this leg of the trip because my destination was Courtenay, B.C. Home of the infamous Rifleman and Stormy!
I had seen lots of pictures of their local airport and thought it would be an interesting airstrip to land at! It seemed to have lots of beautiful scenery, so I dialed in CAH3 into my GPS and headed out!

Image

Route map so far....
Image

I had realized on this take-off that  I have accumulated alot of souveniers on this adventure! Now after loading all my fresh fish on board, it was little slow getting off the ground! (not to mention that this is very short runway!)
Image

I could tell that I was getting closer to Vancouver Island due the snowy peaks were becoming less and less...instead there was some actual green landscape to enjoy! Nice.........
Image

Due the massive tail wind I had all the way, I arrived at Courtenay alot sooner then expected! I was able to cruise at 220 knts! Nice town!  ;D
Image

Because I was so early, I did not think that Ken would be there to meet me yet, so I got permission to do a low fly-by to see if he was around...and...there they were! Him and Stormy out for an afternoon stroll!  ;D
Image

I circled around and came in for final. As I got closer and closer to the runway, I realized that this was not going to be a walk in the park! This was a TINY airstrip that is awefully close to the beach!
Image

I was glad that Ken was able to take this shot of my approach! I thought for a second that I was going to have do another go around!
Image

I was able to safely get her down and get her parked...I shut everything down and headed out to go have that beer with Ken that he promised me!
Image

The next leg will be my final leg of this adventure!
I plan to stay here for a few days and do some sight seeing and then it will straight back to Calgary!

Thanks for watching! Comments/Suggestions always welcome...

While you're here, you should do some flight-seeing up to the Comox Glacier.....it can hardly be missed and is only ten minutes from take-off......see if you can locate it, Dean..........
