Vanguard AI....hmmm....interesting

Postby RollerBall » Tue Dec 16, 2003 12:43 pm

I wondered how it would work as an AI. Here's the answer. Southend to Schipol, 0750 GMT.

In fs9, engines start after pushback, so it pushes back with it's steps still down!

For newcomers, this is how it's done.

After the takeoff which I watched directly, I moved to EHAM and parked looking up the approach on the active (actually, this time I got it wrong as the landing rwy was different from the takeoff!). Set the time to 5-10 mins BEFORE the AI is due to arrive. The idea is that you can watch the AI approaching if you want to.

BUT if you hit Ctrl-Q you open up a window and if you keep hitting Ctrl-W you page through the 'nearby' AI traffic. Eventually if you're lucky (which I was) you get the one you're interested in.

If you hit W, the small window opens up onto the whole screen and you can then just watch your AI for as long as you want. Use your hat switch and you can move all around it as well.

Toggling W takes you back to the main screen with the small window and Ctrl-Q closes it eventually.

Sorry for repeating all this for the folks who know, but there are always newbies around who might appreciate it.

Most excellent. One learns new things in this sim everyday from their fellow simmers!

Thanks!

Nice one Roger. :D

I've often wondered how you got your shots of AI traffic. This is the same thing we call Chase view in CFS. I've sat fascinated for hours watching my AI drones do their thing in missions. Haven't done much in FS9 yet & will bear this in mind. I knew it must be possble in FS but never really thought about it. I used to use a clever little gauge to do a similar thing in FS2002. I forget the name of it right now. ::) ;)

PS. AIMap. Not sure it works in FS9.*
*PPS. It doesn't. Not for me anyway. Don't try it.

:-* Roger, for the flight to my hometown with this beauty.

But, errhm, what's with the mountains on approach? No mountains in my country, sorry to say. Seems like your mesh is WAY off, Roger.

(If I may suggest, if you use the mesh from Pietro Mauri @ avsim, pick the Germany + French one, it has Holland, Belgium & Luxemburg included...)

Yeah I know

But you can't do everything at once. That's a problem for tomorrow (or the day after.. ;) )

hey, nice pics, but i think you should change the contact points of the vanguard,it "hovers" a bit above the ground.
