Interestingly, the DLB was the largest user (outside of the Royal Navy) of the T20. Sixteen were used by the DLB from 1958 to 1976. They were replaced by OV-10 Broncos.

What can I say. I don't like the colour or the TT version but that is one helluva model of a beautiful aeroplane. Well done.

PS. Showing my ignorance - what is/was the DLB?

I've had this plane for a few weeks now and I love it! The fact that you can deploy the target and engage the winch prop make this a really great model. I just wish they had used a slightly better colour! (On the real ones that is )

Well...............'DLB' stands for Deutscher Luftfahrt Beratungsdienst (yes, I know  - you now wish that you hadn't asked  ;) ). They were purchased by the Federal German Government (not the Luftwaffe at that time as you can imagine). Their purpose was to provide target-tug facilities.

They were fitted with Swiss manufactured towing equipment. At least two were sold to American owners after retirement.

As for the colour.....awful it may be......but if someone was firing live rounds at a target that you were pulling behind you.......then maybe bright orange is OK  ;D

One of the saddest things that ever happened to a plane, being converted to a target tug.  :( :-/ And to add insult to injury they painted it that gruesome orange colour lol

Thanks for the positive feedback  ;)

I look at it this way -

If they hadn't been bought by the DLB, I expect that they would have been scrapped at that time. Fortunately after retirement in 1976 ( a more affluent era) many found their way to the US and UK airshow circuits. Hence giving people a new chance to see this plane flying  ;D
