JU-88 over Iowa

Postby Wing Nut » Mon Dec 01, 2003 2:03 am

Well, I know that where I grew up, this might raise a few eyebrows.  A remark in another thread lead me to download this plane and I am thankful.  This plane is one of the nicest I've seen in a while!  I'll let the pics speak for themselves...

I don't know how long this plane has been out, but I'm glad I found it!  It's here at SimV in the FS2002 Vintage section...

Looks nice Pippin. Wonder if I could convert it for CFS2? I somehow doubt it but I shall soon find out. ;)

probably... it's really a converted CFS3 model, if we have to believe the author

Ivan. We already discussed this in the FS2004 forum. CFS3 aircraft are configured completely differently to those in any other M$ sim. I'll stick my neck out & say that they could not possibly work in CFS2, FS2002 or FS2004.

all the author said in the message for the file download ( here at simv)  was that the model was based on the stock cfs3 model.    so i'm assuming the model files were the only parts used ( since there all GWax ) it'll work in 02/04    but the air and cfg files i'm sure had to be rewritten      ?????????

i would love to know how they did it

Unfortunately I no longer have CFS3 installed to confirm it either way. I'm 99.9% certain that CFS3 aircraft have no MDL file.

Here's what Pippin (who does have CFS3 installed) said about it in the FS2004 thread. This is what made him check it out in the first place.
[quote]It's not the CFS3 version.

Right. All is now as clear as mud. This Ju-88 was exported as a CFS2 model & therefore didn't need converting. The flight dynamics on this version must have been tweaked for FS2004 as I can't get it to take off in CFS2. There are 6 proper CFS2 versions of this aircraft by the same author in various markings posted on this page alone. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft53.htm
I suspect that all these should work fine in FS2004 with a few simple tweaks - swapping AIR files etc.

I knew I was a tad rusty & behind with this stuff but this is ridiculous. ::) ;)

PS. It's a very nice piece of work. Thanks Pippin.

Here is what the read-me has to say about it being based on CFS3...

Junkers Ju88 A-14, KG77 Sicily 1941/42 by K. Malinowski and J. McDaniel.  For FS2002.  Based on stock CFS3 visual models.  Many animated features, custom textures, custom flight model, full IFR panel.

This is what is in the installation instructions...

These visual models were adapted from CFS3 visual models and converted for use with FS2002/CFS2.

Visual model by Krzysztof Malinowski using a stock CFS3 model as a basis.  Textures by K. Malinowski.  Flight model and panel by Jay McDaniel.

Now it looks to me like they only used CFS3 as a visual basis for the plane.  If that is true, they did a fantastic job because except for the cannon, this thing surpasses the CFS3 version by a mile.  The fact that he says the plane is intended for FS2002 is pretty much a tip off too, in that it would have been pretty early in the CFS3 run that this plane appeared.  The earliest listed entry in the download stats page is June 03.  That is,I believe, before the aircraft sdk came out, so I doubt he would have been able to use the texture files from CFS3 as they are totally different.

I suspect the CFS2 version is older. Krzysztof Malinowski is an experienced & respected FS designer. I have no reason to doubt his word. The Readme seems to imply that his Ju-88 is based on the CFS3 default. Unless this means roughly based on it maybe he was part of the official development team. Someone has to create the default aircraft but I very much doubt they would be allowed to release their own versions.
