Never was sure whether to use Bf or Me, even in my 1945/6 copy of Jane's All The World's Aircraft, both are used. Which is correct?

it's Bf, not Me. the Messerschmidt factory decided to keep the designation after they took over the company

Thanks Hagar    I just as confused as ever, from now on I'll just refer to it as a Bf/ME109, or maybe I'll call it that winged thingie Willi made.

                 Fido  ??? :P ;D

Fido, I have been looking for a decent BF-109 for months now!  Where'd you get that one?

they are actually both correct,  it depends on the model and year it was produced.    it was bf at the beginng of the war,  and then later changed to Me, to honor the designer after its apparent success.    i'm pretty sure anyway iread that in the great book of world war 2 airplanes.( it could have been the other way around )

Both

Yup, Ruekesj is correct.  I'm not sure what year it switched over, but first it was Bf. (For Bayerische Flugzeugwerke), then switched to Me. for good ol' Willy Messerschmitt!  Me. was first used on the Me. 163 rocket interceptor, I think.

Sorry guys. By being my ususal pedandic self & correcting Ivan's spelling of the name Messerschmitt I seem to have confused the issue. I have a natural talent for doing that. LOL ::)

If you had checked my link it's all explained there.
