The original... and best?

Postby ozzy72 » Thu Nov 27, 2003 3:45 pm

Well its the original, and possibly still the best. I still love it, so out in my favourite kite to resolve a bit of a debate about 190s..... ;D

Is that the original CFS? If it is how does the aircraft have the reflective textures in the first pic? Or maybe I'm just seeing things. But anyway is it an addon aircraft? Thanks.

Its the original Mk IX that comes with CFS1 Justin. I just maxed all the graphics sliders for a laugh to see what would happen. It runs great ;D

Ozzy. Did you ever try Alain L'Homme's beautiful Spitfire Mk II in CFS1? It's a trial version for his payware & not fully animated. Still knocks the spots off the defaults any day of the week. First 3rd party aircraft I ever saw with rolling wheels & that was in 1998. Pop Mike Hambly's Merlin sounds in there & you're all set. :o ;)

PS. It's a tad tricky to install as the instructions are not too clear. It uses the default AIR file which you have to paste in. There was an update to the original FS98 version including a DP & CFS1 prop.

Ozzy. Alain L'Homme's original Spitfire Mk II is posted on Page 1 of CFS2 Aircraft. I forgot that Joe Amodea posted an updated package here. http://www.simviation.com/cfs1aircraft11.htm

If we're talking CFS1 my list of "must-haves" would have to include Alain's classic F4U5-NLR Corsair + his 2 lovely P-51D Mustangs (Big Beautiful Doll & Just Jacques) & the Spitfire Mk II. The correct CFS1 versions of the originals might be a tad difficult to track down now but there were many authorised "updates" by other developers like Joe Amodea. Alain's models were far ahead of their time & all they lacked was a fully functional DVC. I still don't know how he did it or which modelling application he used.

I would also recommend Pentti Kurkinen's beautiful Bf 109G package http://www.simviation.com/cfs1aircraft9.htm & Pat Didier's Fw 190 (several versions). http://www.simviation.com/cfs1aircraft7.htm
They might seem old hat now but these exquisite models took my breath away with admiration (& not a little jealousy) when I first saw them in the sim.

You might notice some familiar names on the above links including up & coming designers like Mauro Giacomazzi, Tim "Piglet" Conrad & PHF Burnage.

I haven't flown CFS1 in ages.  Maybe I will take it out of its extremely dusty CD case. ;D Nice shots Ozzy.

Ah, I was talking Freeware. I think the fully animated one must have been the payware version.

CFS1, I really loved that sim. I spent many, many hours in that MkXI shooting up anything and everything in that sim. Sadly, I lost this too when I had my "Sim accident" early in the week :'(
