Antonov, bad weather and mountains...

Postby Ivan » Sun Nov 23, 2003 6:14 am

The local hospital in Khorog urgently needs supplies, and the rain has damaged the road so it's unable to do it by truck...

Image
Loading up at Dushanbe, flying through thunderstorms

Image
Weather is bad, AGL altitude low...

Image
But the ATC keeps shifting from Kabul center to Dushanbe center every minute, while the 'hell stretch' is getting closer and the clouds are closing in...

Image
Entering the worst part of the route: 2 narrow 180 degree turns, very small error margain, radar altitude and bank angle warning blaring while doing the turns

Image
Final turn of the 'hell stretch' and then only 5 minutes to Khorog. The weather did get a little better, but the thrust levers decided not to cooperate with each other, so i had only control over engine #1. Made it safely to the field though

Great pics, that plane looks great, as does the scenery. The story's cool too.

Well done ;D
