Project Update.

Postby Katahu » Fri Nov 14, 2003 9:38 pm

I have finally fixed my little problem with the wheel issue.

I now have new pics for the updated model. I have successfully added reflective textures to the rims and side-view mirrors.

Now, I need help with the sound file. FOR SURE. Never in my life have I even tried to make any sort of needed sound files.

I was thinking about borrowing the sounds from the Jaguar, but the mercedes is a luxury vehicle and the Jaguar sounds like a sports car. So, I don't think the sounds are right for my model.

I now need help with the 2D panel. I am thinking about borrowing the panel from one of the previous known mercedes vans we have seen in simviation. However, I don't think those panels would feel right for my model. But its worth a try. Isn't it?

As for the textures for the interior, I'll see what I can do. There is a Mercedes-Benz dealership next to my dad's job [as in across his street]. They have loads of cars in there. Hopefully, they should have the 1998 SL600 series.

I dought that the manager of the place would even think of letting me in with a camera and take pictures of the interior. ;D I can't record sounds because I don't have a digital recorder. Not even an tape recorder. :-[

Still, I will not say when the full model will be released because times do fluctuate without notice.

Anyways. What do you think of the pics?

Also, what do you think should be added? [ex: laptop on the passenger seat, paintball gun, things like that]

I'm glad to see you've gotten things worked out!

A couple of suggestions:

On the side mirrors, make the regular texture color about 125,125,125 and the alpha channel color 255,255,255 (white).  This will make them more reflective so you can have better true mirror reflection.  If it is too dark, try changing the regular texture color by 25 points (or whatever they're called) at a time until you get them the way you would like.

Also, try placing a radio antenna on it.  I'm not sure where it would go, but I'm sure you can figure that out.  Does it have exhaust pipes?  If not, they'd make a great addition.  And as for something in the passenger seat, how about a liquor bottle, or maybe a passenger bracing themselves for hard turns. ;D

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try those out.

As for the dynamics, the engine type used [as indicated in the aircraft.cfg file] is actually a jet engine. I had to use it because the cylinder engine type didn't seem to wanna work. I tried to raise the engine position, but no effect.

However, the model does handle good at high speeds.

Do you know how to get a jet engine to start quicker in the aircraft.cfg file?

I'll try to setup the cylinder engine type again to see where I went wrong.

I'll post a sample of the aircraft.cfg file for you so that you might figure out what's wrong.

The visual model does need to undergo a few minor tweaks before I move on to the interior textures.

The panel for the previous mercedes models may not be right for my model, but I'm thinking about borrowing its gauges. The gauges are good enough.

Why not make it into a AMG tuned version, you can use the Jaguar soundset and outrun cessna's
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Can we get a little fancy with your car? How about some decals or some designer strips to distinquish the shape of the body with some neon lights under the chasis. That would make it look off the hook man  :o!
Its only in your mind, strong mind, strong soul and nobody can take that from you!

Well, neon lights may be alright. But remember, this is luxury car I'm making. Not a hotrod.

Oh, Silent, I love the pics.

Just before I recieved the pics from Silent, I have already made a set of textures for the interior. However, the textures didn't look good since they were made from scratch and I don't have PSP.

But after seeing the pics the Silent sent me, I began to replace my old interior textures with a set a new textures that are based on those pics.

After trying out the new textures in flight simulator, the interior now looks 100x better than before. It even looks sharp as hell.

I decided to set up the interior textures so that they can only be seen from the inside [virtual cockpit view].

That way, whenever the vehicle is viewed from the outside [spot view], the visual model wouldn't be much of a FPS hog.

I have also color coded every exterior piece so that they can closely match the interior pieces. For example: A seat in the DVC has a black leather texture. Therefore, the seat viewed in Spot mode will have a difuse color of dark gray.

I did this so that people with low-end systems can use this model without sacrificing frame rates. Not only that, this model has a hi-poly count. There's enough polys on the model to equal the number of polys on a fully-complete Boeing-747 [I think].

BTW, Silent, thanks for the pics man. I couldn't have made it look good without you.

Here is the latest update on the interior.

The dashboard was the hardest to texture. But thanks to Gmax's UVW Unwrap feature, it was easier.

I decided that a white carpet would a bit nice. With the white carpet, you feel a sense a depth and detail.

The steering wheel needs a little work, but it's no problem.
