Ramps in Vice City

Postby Travis » Fri Sep 05, 2003 7:51 pm

Okay, I assume these are here to stop airplanes at the end of this runway, but they are really there for ramping off of.

And in the help file I downloaded from the net, here's what the guy thinks:

There will be 2 ramps sticking up, which i presume are for the planes to take
off from, but anyway, you're jump is from the one on the left.

Ramping aircraft?

Almost anyone who flies harriers has sloped front decks on the carriers.

Russians have it too, but a Su-35 is somewhat bigger than a harrier

firstly
great shot, those ramps are great fun to use. love taking the superbike out for a few jumps.
secondly. arnt the russian carriers also twice the size of the british ones? the main reason being the Su37 isnt capable of STOVL.
Third thing, did you know a harrier takes off of the deck with nozzles in the full back position, it isnt until the aircraft leaves the deck that the pilot moves the nozzles:)

Russian full deck carriers are shorter than a Nimitz,  but longer than british carriers. they don't have catapults (in flanker 2.5)

Round signs on the deck are helicopter landing spots

Kiev class carriers (Ka-30 helo's and Yak-38 VTOL aircraft) have a short deck. The Yak usually does a rolling takeoff on the diagonal runway, but lands vertically on special assigned spots on the rear deck.
Aircraft are only for ASW duties, as the missile pack on the front deck is sufficient to blow a small fleet to the bottom of the sea.

But why do you need aircraft anyway if your carrier can launch nuclear-tipped anti-ship missiles and has more SAMs and AAA than an average infantry battalion

because it wouldnt be an aircraft carrier if it didnt:)
it would just be an oversized battleship. remember the aircraft carrier is there to give a country as much flexibility in the attacking role as possible, without helo's and planes it wouldnt have much flexibility, remember as well the anti aircraft defenses it has only work so well to a short range, both the russians and americans have aircraft with the ability to carry anti-ship missiles that can be fired from stand-off ranges, theres only so many missiles you can stop in one go, so if you have a squad of 8 hornets, or SU35's or whatever that each decide to lauch all their missiles, then at least one will get through, your aircraft again, are their for interception of the threat at beyond attack range

That's right...
but compare the weapon loadout of a Nimitz with that of the Kuznetsov... which one do you want to sail on if under attack

I'd take the Nimitz and the Kuznetsov at the same time with one hand tied behind my back!

neither the kusnetzow, nor the nimitz. i'd take a nuclear missile facility and erase both of them with some nice ICBMs.

They could be only half tilted. They may be the boards at the lauching end of the catapult to stop the heat of the jets as they take off burning everything behind it. They are usually vertical but they may be only half-tilted in order for you to be able to ramp them. Because when they are not in use they fold flat into the carrier deck.

they are nothing but ramp jumps, this is a commercial airport not military. its based on miami intl, and the whole city seems to be pretty accurate as far as roads and bridges go in miami, you can even pick it out in flight sim where you drive in vice city

Yep, true. But the theme of Aircraft Carriers was going so I just thought I would add it.

Yeah, my whole point was how ludicrous it sounded to be ramping commercial jetliners! ::)  What a mess that would cause!
