Handley Page H.P. 42

Postby Iroquois » Tue Sep 02, 2003 3:18 pm

Some may remember my quiz in the photo section last week. One photo was of the HP 42. Some think it was an ugly aircraft but I think it's a wonderful example of an earlier time, although it was just a bit too late for it's own time. Only 8 were built. It did bring several things that the public and airlines wanted. Safety, reliability, and comfort ensured it's success with Imperial Airways. I found this to be a facinating plane but could only find one for FS4! I never thought any designers would want to make such a thing but look what I found at Avsim today, the HP 42 for FS2004. I took it for a test flight over London England.

Thank you Derek Palmer and Saverio Maurri for bringing such a classic to life. It's a FSDS2 model BTW.

Very nice. I've always kind of liked this plane ever since I made an Airfix kit of one when I was about 10 years old!

It is a classic in every sense! :) Aparently there are moves afoot to produce a replica of Hannibal in the UK. That was according to "Aeroplane" magazine & if it comes to a reality i would love to see it.
