Celebrating A Century of Flight- Canadian Style

Postby Iroquois » Tue Aug 12, 2003 8:42 pm

I've decided to take the ultimate trip to celebrate 100 years of fligh in Canada. Well actually it's only 94 years but I thought I'd get a head. Although it doesn't have anything to do with my shots, I'll explain why it's only 94 years. On a cold Wnter's day in 1909, Canada entered as a major player on the aviation scene. The place was a frozen lake in Nova Scotia and the plane was the Silver Dart. Now, 94 years later we are still a major player in the scener and have contributed planes such as the futuristic Arrow and the top of the line Learjet business jet.
Back to my trip. I've decided to cross Canada. The Plane, the Vickers Vimy. Great for a challenging VFR flight. Oh sure I have a library of hundreds of planes but I can't get enough of the MS defaults.

Here are some shots of the first leg of my flight. The flight will take me from Toronto to Vancouver and if I have time, across the frozen north and down through the Maritimes. Here are the first shots from over Toronto.

A picture perfect view over Toronto at dawn.

Heading off into the west, and the unknown.

There's probably a lot of dawn and dusk shots because they show of the best of FS2004's sky scenery. It's going to be difficult. My first leg from Toronto to Perry Sound is going to take an hour and a half. The Vimy has no trim so you've got to keep your hand on the stick.

If you decide to land at Parry Sound, show some shots of the local area.....it was my summer campground for years through the 70s and 80s.........

Good Luck!

Watch out for me eh?! We will probably cross paths somewhere around Manitoba as I do my West to East cross Canada trip.

I would love to see some shots of the take off and landing too!

;D ;D ;D Orenda, The Vickers Vimy is a great plane to fly, I have come to really enjoy flyin the oldie but goodies, but am amazed how Mr Lindbergh could fly "The Spirit of St Louis" (Periscope et al?) Landing and Takeoffs had to be a real challenge.  Since a few of those flights were from this province (Newfoundland) "The Rock" I want to fly the recreated flights - Tried Amelia Earhart's 14 hr + flight from (Harbour Grace/via St John's) Atlantic crossing, the Thunder and Lightning storms were terrific/horrific?, depending how you look at it  lol Good Flyin'
