19 Sqn Long range fighter sweep

Postby HawkerTempest5 » Sat May 10, 2003 9:42 am

RAF Coastal Command are attacking enemy shipping off Norway. 19 Squadron is flying a long range fighter sweep in support over the enemy coast. April 1945

Heavy with fuel, 19 Sqn gets airborne.

Heading out. It's going to be a long day.

Over the enemy coast. Engaged by FW-190D's.
Image
Closing for a kill.
Image
One enemy target destroyed.
Image
Low on fuel, both sides disengage. 19 Sqn forms up to head for home.
Image
Darkness falls as 19 Sqn head for home.

On finals, flying in on vapours!
Image
And almost down.

Home at last. Looks like a couple of 8th Air Force strays have paid us a visit!

19 Sqadron was the first RAF squadron to recieve the Vickers Supermarine Spitfire whilst based a Duxford in 1938. Flying from Duxford's sattelite field at Fowlmere it flew Spitfires durng the Battle of Britain and was the first squadron to shoot down an enemy with a cannon armed spitfire.
Later in the war 19 Squadron flew Mustang Mk III's and IV's from locations in Scotland on long range bomber escort and in support of Coastal Command.

This superb 19 Squadron repaint of the FDG P-51 is of Flt. Lt. Dooley's Mustang Mk IV and was done by our very own Space Ace. You can find this and other great repaints at his web site here: http://www.geocities.com/thedrachensnest/

First off awesome shots! I like the play by play too, and the bit of historical info at the end is a nice touch.

A couple of ?'s thought, is GZR Bassingbourne default in cfs2 or is it a scenery package? I would check but I dont have my cfs2 cd here at school. 2nd how did you get the p-47's on the ground too? I never see other planes on the ground when I land unless they're in my squadron and they land first.

The Bassingbourne airfield is an addon that's been arround for a little while now. You will find it in the CFS2 scenery section here at SimV. The static aircraft are also available as a seperate download for the Bassingbourne airfield.

Nice shots Roger, glad to see Space Aces repaints making an appearance on the forum, he goes from strength to strength with his artwork!
