Recording Headset Audio

Postby VBonanza » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:35 am

Ok. I occasionally get to go flying with a friend in his Bonanza, sometimes I like to take video. When I do my flight training I will also want to take video. Is there a way to record the audio from the headsets without spending a lot of money on an NFlight Cam or a GoPro? Those are amazing camera systems, but I don't have that money at the moment.

As long as your cam has a mic socket you should be able to rig up a cable to plug into a headset socket.

You can buy adapters  that split your headset cables into two, one to take to the vid camera, and one to plug into the aircraft. :)

However, the easiest solution is to get a small mic and tape it to the inside of your headset, so the camera hears everything you hear :)

I just looked at both of my cameras...no mic slots for either my Nikon P500 or Sony Handycam.

Anyone know of a good small mic like what was mentioned above? I have heard of Pin Mics, but never seen them, and that still might not plug into my camera.

This might be worth a watch

Yeah, the guy records the video with the GoPro, but the audio was recorded separately and then mixed with the video.

He used an Olympus VN480 which goes for about

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Because it isn't a video and it has to do with video Cameras, honestly does it matter? It's just a forum. I never get why some people get so uptight about topics being slightly in the wrong area. I would understand if I posted a video...but this has to do with the technical side of the camera, which is why I posted it here.

**Not saying anyone here is getting uptight BTW, I have just noticed it on other forums.
