Are you really that close to the planes or are you zoomed in quite a lot. :-?

Here in Auckland, the scenic lookout is about 1km from the start of the runway so we can't get really close to the planes.

It is pretty damn close. Here is what it looks like on Google Maps, the black X is the spotting location. As you can see not far from taxiway Alpha and runway 34L-16R.

The A380 wingtip is only around 10-30m away from passing directly overhead. Here it is with no zoom on a 50-150mm lens.
