A good summer day at 47N

Postby beaky » Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:18 pm

Sunday was my first flying day since my check ride... didn't take many pictures, but here are a few.

Coupla guys stopped by for lunch in this very slick '47 Navion.

I managed to get three flights in from the back seat- first "victim" was newly-minted CP-G Andy (who kindly let me fly the tow and landing approach, LOL), then Jeremy, who just did his first power solo but is preparing for his PP-G, and our very own James T. finally got his well-deserved ride (although conditions were so flat by then that I didn't have time to let him fly it).
Flying from the back presents some interesting challenges (like seeing where you are going, and basically being hunched over), but I did OK. It also has benefits- like your very own window, where you can stick your elbow out in the breeze.

So quiet in the glider, I heard this train's horn as it approached the crossing. This window comes in handy for photography...

After clawing my way to 3000 from a 2500-foot tow (conditions were not as good as they appeared), I let Jeremy take it, and he did a great job of finding some brutal sink.

Summer is starting off great for you Sean... :)

That is one nice looking Navion...the poor mans P51 Mustang.
The aircraft was designed I believe to attract all the fighter pilots to purchase after the Second World War.
Good performing aircraft as well.

Should be seeing some club BBQ pictures shortly, or a fly-in perhaps?
Do you folks have anything lined up for restoration over the winter next year?  Perhaps a little too early.

Have fun...summer has just begun... ;D

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Sounds about right, the fella that flew in with it was saying that particular airplane had been to France and back.

Great snaps, Sean. Thanks again for the lift (er... sink ;D).
