2006 TAC firing

Postby Meck » Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:21 am

Hey guys,

today I'd like to welcome you to something different:

Some of you may know that I was in basic military service for the german airforce and therefore have been (through some lucky circumstances) to a PATRIOT missle live firing (called TAC firing) in Crete, NAMFI near Souda AB (CHQ) in 2006.

Well let's start!  :D

Flying via TransAll (LTG 61) from Penzing ETSA to Souda AB CHQ

Three word you'd think you never see close together:

Lucky, flying, & Transall! ;D

(well, not all the way from Germany to Souda Bay anyway!)

Indeed it was fun and not a second boring. I'd always prefer this turboprop to any jet that blows at FL30 with nothing to see but clouds... Flying in the TrAll was almost like a smooth, calm VFR-flight: low & slow with much to look at!  :D

what aircraft is that??? it is not a C-130 is it???
Carriers would be so mush easier to land on if they would just stop turning!!!

It's a C160 transall....;)...see http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/m ... tran12.JPG

Nice shots...don't think I'd fancy a flight that long in one though....get any more of the 'pit?

Nope, sry!

In 2006 I wasn't aware of being a member here half year later - so I enjoyed flying and didn't take many photos on my own. And I haven't been able to visit the pilot in the 'pit - the pic is from a video my training supervisor made and shared afterwards...

I now could bite myself somwhere for not taking more pics from in-/outside.  >:(  ::)

That's standart German Army.

15 bucks is a nice price - I have often been thinking 'bout buying a pair of trousers and a 'fieldblouse', but new ones are prohibitive here...  >:(
